Taking shelter from the rainsadamasashi

Here’s a bit of mini trivia common to all of Masashi Sada’s songs: where most people would write “lyrics” (作詞), Sada writes “poetry” (作詩).
It reflects his insistence that the words aren’t just lines for a song—the song itself is a single poem.
Very much like Sada.
This track is his second solo single after the breakup of the duo Grapes.
It comically portrays the bold actions of a woman who falls in love with a man she meets while taking shelter from the rain.
Rainy days can sap your energy, but listening to this song somehow lifts you up.
futureKobukuro

It’s Kobukuro’s 27th single, written and composed by Kentaro Kobuchi.
It served as the theme song for the Toho-distributed film “orange” and the ending theme for the anime of the same name.
Its tender, heartrending tone feels like gentle words of encouragement being whispered in your ear, wrapping you in a warm feeling.

A Bouquet of Kisses in the RainImai Miki

The song that makes me feel like “Even rainy days have their perks!” is Miki Imai’s “A Bouquet of Kisses in the Rain.” “A Bouquet of Kisses in the Rain” is a track from the album “retour,” released on August 29, 1990, composed by KAN, famous for “Ai wa Katsu.” The song expresses the overflowing joy of a woman who is proposed to at a crosswalk in a heavy downpour.
Thanks to its super happy lyrics, listening to it is sure to warm your heart!
umbrellaMrs. GREEN APPLE

Amid an unending rain of sorrow, a powerless feeling like standing motionless without an umbrella.
Even so, it is a song that portrays a painfully selfless love, swearing to become the “umbrella” oneself to protect a loved one.
The track was included on the 2016 single “Samama Festival!” and was later featured on the 2017 album “Mrs.
GREEN APPLE.” Written by vocalist Motoki Omori during his high school years and released after parting with someone close, its background deepens the work’s sense of urgency.
When your heart is shrouded in deep sadness, listening to it will remind you that feelings for someone can be a source of salvation.
umbrellaSEKAI NO OWARI

A fantastical medium-tempo ballad that personifies a voiceless “umbrella” and portrays its pure will to protect someone.
Released by SEKAI NO OWARI in June 2020, the song also drew attention as the theme for the drama “Dragon Road: Two-Faced Avenger.” Written from the perspective of an umbrella that shouldn’t have emotions, the lyrics convey a poignant determination to protect a cherished person, even at the cost of self-sacrifice, resonating deeply with many fans.
When you strongly wish to protect someone, or on nights when you feel lonely, listening to it may bring warm tears to your eyes.
It always starts with rain.ASKA

ASKA, an artist who was hugely active from the 1980s to the 1990s as part of CHAGE and ASKA.
Due to scandals, we don’t see him on TV as much these days, but the songs he left behind are still listened to by many fans and are frequently sung at karaoke.
Among ASKA’s songs, the one I especially recommend is Hajimari wa Itsumo Ame (It Always Starts With Rain).
Compared to his other works, it has a narrower vocal range and a simple vocal line, making it easier to stay on pitch.
Rain followed by clear skiesMr.Children
Included on Mr.Children’s fourth album, Atomic Heart, released on September 1, 1994.
It was created under the concept of “what if member Suzuki were a salaryman,” resulting in lyrics that office workers can relate to.
It’s a medium-tempo track with a pleasantly laid-back feel that leaves you thinking, “Well, I’ll somehow get through tomorrow, too.”
