Japanese Reggae Popularity Ranking [2026] (1–10)
greenCHEHON1rank/position

One of CHEHON’s signature tracks, released in May 2006.
It has been highly praised as a work that brought a fresh breeze to the Japanese reggae scene.
The lyrics, showcasing a distinctive flow and storytelling skill, express encounters and farewells with “Midori” by layering them with the changing seasons.
If you’re just starting to get into reggae, begin with this song.
Its laid-back melody and lyrics that leave a deep afterglow will resonate with your heart.
Stay With MeHISATOMI2rank/position

A hit produced in 2011 by Jamaica’s prestigious label Penthouse.
At the time, ISSEI—active as both a track maker and a human beatboxer—was selected to direct the music video.
MIKA, a blogger who enjoyed overwhelming popularity among junior high and high school girls, appeared as HISATOMI’s girlfriend.
It was a track that generated a lot of buzz.
DOKOKEN-U3rank/position

A song set against the backdrop of the city at night, capturing moments of encounters and farewells.
With the heat of club music and the clamor of the metropolis as its background, it vividly portrays the passion and loneliness of youth.
Its rhythmic sound, infused with reggae and dancehall elements, will make listeners want to dance.
Included on the compilation album “ESCAPE,” released in November 2003, it generated major buzz in the club scene.
It was later re-released in 2005 as an indie album of the same name and became a huge hit, selling around 200,000 copies.
Perfect for nighttime drives or fun times with friends.
With KEN-U’s distinctive vocals, it’s sure to become a wonderful track that colors a page of your youth.
Lifetime RespectMiki Dōsan4rank/position

This is the 21st single by singer-songwriter Michi Dozan (Miki Dozan), who has been active as DOZAN11 since 2014 and showcases a wide range of talents, including reggae DJ and producer.
With a liberating, unmistakably reggae beat and straightforward lyrics, the track became famous for bringing the reggae genre—then not widely recognized in Japan’s music scene—to nationwide attention.
Its distinctive, catchy phrases and naturally body-swaying groove reaffirm the strong affinity between the Japanese language and reggae music, making it an anthem of Japanese reggae.
The Sunlit HillRYO the SKYWALKER5rank/position

“Harewataru Oka,” a signature song by RYO the SKYWALKER, a musician who has long been at the forefront of Japanese reggae.
It was released as a single in 2006 and included on the 2007 album “ONE-DER LAND.” The music video features actor Yosuke Kubozuka, who is also active as a reggae musician.
It’s a love song that portrays the emotions of parting.
The soulful flow delivered with a gravelly voice over an easygoing mood is just the best.
With a bittersweet yet powerful vibe, it feels like it gently supports new beginnings.
Truly a classic you want to listen to on a bright, sunny afternoon.
For Youlecca6rank/position

Lecca, a female reggae artist who boasts top-tier name recognition in Japan.
In fact, she’s an elite graduate of Waseda University’s School of Political Science and Economics, considered one of the university’s most competitive faculties.
Perhaps thanks to that background, she is currently serving as a member of the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly.
Her famous song “For You,” released in 2009, gained popularity for its heartwarming style, expressing gratitude to a partner who supports her every day.
Midsummer OrionINFINITY16 welcomez MINMI,10-FEET7rank/position

INFINITY16 is a sound system from Yokohama.
For those unfamiliar with reggae, the term “sound system” can be a bit confusing—it basically refers to a DJ who owns and operates their own audio setup.
In the case of INFINITY16, since the only member is TERA-C, you can think of it as a solo project.
This track, “Midsummer Orion,” is a collaboration between singer MINMI and the three-piece band 10-FEET.
If you like upbeat, cheerful love songs, be sure to give it a listen.
