List of Rock Festivals in May [2026]

This is a self-produced festival hosted by the girls’ loud rock band Hanabie. It began as a live show celebrating the members’ high school graduation in 2018 and has grown in scale each year, becoming a regular annual event. Set at KT Zepp Yokohama, the day will be packed with heat and energy as domestic acts like JasonAndrew and KALASiM join Australia’s STAND ATLANTIC to “liberate” the audience with thunderous, loud sound. Scheduled for May 2026.

The Kamakura Petit Rock Festival is an outdoor live music event without electricity that has been running since 2014. Held at Yuigahama Seaside Park, attendees can enjoy up-close, unplugged performances while feeling the sea breeze. Aiming to provide a space to experience music itself up close—rather than music as branded consumption—diverse artists, both famous and unknown, perform simultaneously across multiple sites. Admission is free, making it easy for everyone from children and local residents to tourists to drop by. Scheduled for May 2026.

Born from the simple wish, “We want a local festival,” this open-air music festival will celebrate its 15th year in 2026. Held at Ohira Kakashi no Sato, a satoyama area in Ohira, Tochigi City, it has been independently run without sponsors, sustained by a grassroots, DIY spirit. With the concept “Living beautifully with nature,” a diverse array of bands and DJs connect people and the natural world, their sounds gently resonating across the tranquil rural landscape. The festival will take place in May 2026.

This is a citizen-participation event symbolizing “Takasaki, the City of Music,” co-hosted by the City of Takasaki and the Takasaki Otomachi Project. Around 20 genre-specific live spots will be set up around Takasaki Station, and more than 150 musical acts from within and outside the prefecture will perform simultaneously—one of the largest scales in Northern Kanto. A wide array of music, including pop, rock, jazz, folklore, traditional Japanese music, and a cappella, will fill the streets, with the event scheduled for May 2026.

Shoshin Shomei is a circuit event organized by the Hamamatsu live project eyedentity. Held multiple times to date, it takes place across four venues around Itayamachi near Hamamatsu Station—Hamamatsu Madowaku, Hamamatsu FORCE, G-SIDE, and TEHOM—featuring a lineup centered on indie bands active nationwide. Championing an on-the-ground ethos, its appeal lies in a robust bill where emerging and mid-career acts intermingle. The 2026 edition will be held on May 10.

The Mie Blues Festival is a free-admission music event held at Oto no Mori Campground in Yokkaichi City. With the slogan “LOVE & PEACE,” it’s presented as a heartwarming, happy music festival. Musicians from a wide range of genres—not limited to blues but also rock, R&B, jazz, and pop—gather to perform, and more than 20 vendors offer food, drinks, and goods. There will also be an exhibition of classic domestic vintage cars and American classic cars. The event is scheduled for May 2026.

COMING KOBE is a free-admission charity festival that conveys the legacy of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake and promotes disaster preparedness through music. Set in Kobe’s Meriken Park under the theme “A token of gratitude from Kobe,” high-energy, rock-centered performances will resonate through the port city. Longtime regulars with Kansai ties such as ROTTENGRAFFTY, SHAKALABBITS, and KNOCK OUT MONKEY will appear, as the festival marks 31 years since the earthquake with its May 2026 edition.
