Elementary School Students: Simple One-Day Science Project and Craft Ideas
For elementary school summer break projects and crafts, we recommend starting with something your child is already interested in.
When it’s something they like, they can enjoy working on it.
Here, we introduce simple ideas for elementary school students! These are experiments and crafts you can do in a single day.
The materials are things you already have at home or can get quickly, so even if you’re short on time, no worries.
Perfect for those who are “stuck on a theme” or “looking for an easy and fun project”! Find your favorite and give it a try.

Make a lampshade from a milk carton

DIY interior decor has been getting a lot of attention lately.
When you have decor pieces you’ve made yourself in designs you love, you can’t help but feel attached to them.
Large-scale projects can be tough, but making small interior accessories using everyday items is a great option! Here, we’re introducing a lampshade made from paper created out of milk cartons.
It’s very easy to make.
First, boil the milk cartons for about 30 minutes.
Then peel off the film on both the inside and outside of the cartons.
Tear the film-free cartons into small pieces and blend them with water.
This creates paper pulp.
Place the pulp on a mesh screen held in a wooden frame and shape it.
Wrap the mesh and pulp together in cloth, then iron over it to dry.
Finally, attach the paper to the four sides of a wooden lampshade frame, and your lampshade is complete!
Let’s make a battery-powered train

A great science project we recommend for kids who are good at science is the battery-powered coil train.
What you need: 30 meters of copper wire, a AAA battery, neodymium magnets, and a pipe cleaner to wrap with wire and make into a coil.
That’s all you need, and the method is simple: wrap the wire around the pipe cleaner over and over, like making a long spring, to create the copper-wire coil—the track.
Next, attach neodymium magnets to the ends so that they repel each other, place a AAA battery between them, and you’ve made the train.
Put the train into a looped coil, and it will run endlessly until the battery runs out.
It’s fun, easy, and highly recommended.
In conclusion
We introduced some easy science projects that elementary school students can complete in a single day—what did you think? When you’re told “anything is okay” for a project, it can actually make it harder to come up with ideas, right? Everything we introduced are fun, one-day projects and crafts, so please use them as a reference whenever you’re in a pinch!
