Popular comedy and manzai bits that elementary school kids will love. Simple one-liner gags.

We’ve put together a collection of one-shot gags and comedy bits that are guaranteed to be a hit with elementary school kids!

This time, in addition to stand-up comedians, we’ll also introduce material from popular YouTubers.

We’ve gathered a ton—from old-school classics that always get laughs from grade-schoolers to trending routines from today’s comedians.

When performing in front of kids, the key points are to make your movements and voice big, and dive in with confidence—don’t be shy, no matter what the bit is.

Routines with exaggerated movements or songs are easy for kids to understand, so they’re highly recommended.

Use the examples we introduce as a reference, and try creating your own original material too!

Chuei One-Shot Gag Compilation [2020]
one-shot gag Chuei

Nagareboshi has been constantly getting laughs on numerous popular comedy shows like Bakushō On Air Battle, Bakushō Red Carpet, and Entertainers of the Gods.

Chuei, the boke, is chaotically over-the-top anywhere and everywhere, while TAKIUE, the tsukkomi, is always cool—you can’t help but think they deserve to be even more popular.

As for Chuei’s gags, there are countless! The self-introduction gag set to various songs, the gag where he pops up anywhere and turns into an axolotl, the gag where he sprouts horns and becomes Gundam… the list goes on and on.

All of his gags are simple and funny, so I think they’re exactly the kind that elementary school kids love!

Awesome! Awesome! Awesome!

Kukairadan’s Katamari Mizukawa unveils a rare gag at the Comic Awards, talks manga love with Mogura Suzuki — “Everyone’s Choice TSUTAYA Comic Awards” Ceremony
Awesome! Awesome! Awesome!

Do you know the gag “Saikou! Saikou! Saikou!” by Katamari Mizukawa, the straight man of Kuuki Kaidan, the champions of King of Conte 2021? Katamari, who’s handsome and usually seems very quiet, suddenly shouts “Saikou! Saikou! Saikou!” in a loud voice, so it can really surprise people.

As his partner Mogura says, it’s a pretty rare gag, so if you’ve seen it, you’re lucky! It’s easy for anyone to imitate, so it might come in handy as a skit for year-end parties and the like.

Hyokkori-han, who had a huge breakthrough on the 2018 “Omoshiro-so,” made even Haruka Ayase burst into laughter on the show.

His style of firing off one short gag after another is perfect for elementary school kids who want to get to the punchline quickly.

Since the basic bit is just popping his face out from unexpected places, you might not need much practice time.

How about setting up gags using items found at school—popping out from a textbook, from a chalk eraser, or from inside a vaulting box? You can also find the background music used in his skit by searching for “Hyokkori-han,” so be sure to prepare it.

It's Saito-san. Trendy Angel Saito

Trendy Angel is a duo made up of Mr.

Saito—who’s recently been showing his versatility by appearing in musicals—and Takashi, an idol-otaku.

Naturally, their championship-winning skill from the 2015 M-1 Grand Prix brings the house down wherever they go.

Their opening bit, “Hey mister, that’s trendy.” “Yup, I’m Trendy Angel,” is a rock-solid hook.

Even when you know it’s coming, you can’t help but laugh at the routine where Takashi sets him up and Saito fires back with, “Who do you think you’re talking to? I’m Saito!” The comfort of these ‘classic’ comedy beats is something elementary school kids love, too.

For the “I’m Saito” line, try swapping in your own name.

Since it’s a gag that works within a manzai-style flow, you might need a little practice to pull it off!

[Yonshintoshin] Can't Go Home Until We Make 100 Prop Jokes [3-Person Collaboration]

Among the so-called “7th generation” of Japanese comedians, the trio Yonsen Toushin is especially popular.

They have an official YouTube channel where they upload various videos.

The one I’m introducing today is “Monoboke,” where they challenge themselves to see how many jokes they can make using props.

Having a stock of one-liner gags is great when you’re prepared or have multiple bits ready, but when you’re suddenly put on the spot, you can panic and think, “What should I do now?” That’s when this comes in handy.

As expected from a top comedy duo—their quality and creativity are outstanding!

From a video by Tsugaru-dialect YouTuber Shin, here’s a clip of one-shot gags.

The subtitle font has a nostalgic 2000s vibe, which is great, and the gags themselves are pretty solid too! The first one, “Taking out the spinal cord,” is a parody and twist on a Sekisui House commercial.

Endless self-introductionDonguri Takeshi

[Donguri Takeshi] Solo Act: "Self-Introduction"
Endless self-introduction Donguri Takeshi

Donguri Takeshi is a solo comedian whose nonsensical one-shot gags are strangely addictive.

You also often see him appearing in award competitions and on TV as part of the trio “Yes! Donguri RPG” with fellow solo comedians Yes! Akito and Satsumakawa RPG.

Donguri Takeshi’s self-introduction goes on and on, tossing out words that don’t even seem like a self-introduction, yet somehow it draws you in and sticks in your ears.

And to finish, he adds “Donguri Takeshi~!” with a distinctly quirky intonation.

If the rhythm fits, why not try swapping in your own name?
