Trumpet with beatboxing

Beatbox Lesson: How to Make Two Types of Trumpet Sounds – Ryota Tomogane / TOMOKIN
Trumpet with beatboxing

When people think of vocal percussion, they often imagine making drum sounds or scratching noises with the mouth, but you can actually produce trumpet sounds using only your mouth as well.

It takes a bit of practice, but if you whip it out smoothly when someone suddenly asks you to do a quick party trick, it looks pretty cool.

Impromptu caricature

[Miracle] Ran into a super popular comedian during a location shoot!! I went to give them an impromptu caricature!!! / Caricature / How to draw
Impromptu caricature

When you’re suddenly asked to do a quick party trick with no skits or performances prepared, if you’re good at drawing, why not show off an impromptu caricature? Even a quick, simple sketch will get people excited as long as it resembles the person! And if you spend a bit more time to make it a solid likeness, it’s guaranteed to hype things up even more.

Of course, a straightforward, well-done caricature works, but if you can add a bit of exaggeration or stylization, it’ll be an even bigger hit.

Plus, the person can take the drawing home, so it’s a party trick that makes them happy too.

riddle

Nedcchi: Riddle Segment
riddle

A kind of wordplay often performed by rakugo storytellers and the comedian Nezucchi is called “nazokake.” It goes like, “I compare X with Y; the punchline is: they’re both Z,” and it’s a one-shot gag built around matching phrases.

You find a linguistic link between the first term and the second term and give the answer, which some people might find a bit tricky.

Knowing lots of words can give you an advantage.

It could also be fun to turn it into a cooperative game with several people! There are many ways to play—for example, you can reveal only the punchline starting with ‘The heart of it is…’ and have people guess what two things were compared, making it a quiz format.

wotagei

wotagei

Said to have originated from cheering for idols, wotagei—thanks to its distinctive movements—has been gaining attention as a performance in its own right.

How about going all out and showcasing a bold yet stylish display of wotagei? Since the performance is synchronized with the music, the choice of song and how you choreograph to it are absolutely crucial.

Movements that lock in with the sound look even more beautiful, so it may be best to design choreography with that in mind.

To add more impact, performing with a large group is also recommended.

Japanese taiko drum

[Wadaiko Performance] Simple! Odaiko Solo! #Odaiko #Taiko
Japanese taiko drum

Wadaiko is a form of music that can be called a Japanese tradition.

It’s a staple at festivals, and you can really feel the exhilaration it brings.

How about striking the drums with bold energy to liven up your event? While preparing the drums themselves can be challenging, once that’s set, simply making sound is enough to elevate the fun.

If you want to truly master it, there are finer points to watch for—posture, striking technique, rhythm—so you could aim to deliver a high-quality performance with those in mind.

Above all, the key is to express a strong sense of power.

Finger tutting

Finger tutting

Finger tutting is a dance that began gaining attention in the United States around 2008 and has since become widely recognized in Japan, using the fingers, wrists, and arms to express a variety of movements.

The waves, geometric shapes, and other patterns are astonishing—hard to believe they’re created with just the hands.

Since it requires no props and doesn’t need a large space like typical dances, it’s perfect for indoor group hangouts.

Why not start practicing steadily now so you’re ready to show it off?

wotagei

wotagei

Wotagei is a performance known for being done by fans at idol concerts.

Recently, videos of wotagei set to popular songs have been released, and it’s even become a staple party trick.

So if your company is holding a party or a social gathering, why not put on a wotagei performance? Even first-timers can make it look impressive with a bit of practice—perfect for a quick show.

If older attendees who may not be familiar with wotagei will be there, try choosing a song that was a revival hit or otherwise well-known to their generation.
