Pantomime is a classic go-to for a quick party trick.

It takes practice, but it can liven up any setting, so it’s handy to have in your repertoire.

Start with the basics like the “invisible wall,” then practice techniques like making something light look heavy or pulling an invisible rope.

If you’re good at moving your body, combining it with dance is also recommended.

Recorder with the nose

I tried playing Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea on two recorders.
Recorder with the nose

It’s a gag you sometimes see on TV: playing a recorder using breath from your nose.

If you just do it plainly, it might leave people thinking, “That’s kind of gross…” So why not try harmonizing with two recorders—soprano and alto? You’ll be blowing with your nose, but producing a beautiful harmony.

That contrast is sure to make you a hit!

Kendama

Kendama

People say anyone can do it with practice, but I think continuing that practice isn’t something just anyone can do.

If you happen to get hooked, the path to becoming a kendama master might not be so far off.

Plus, it’s surprisingly cool when you can do it—that’s a big bonus!

yo-yo

When you hear “yo-yo,” you might think of a children’s toy—but did you know it’s also enjoyed as a sport by people of all ages? You control it by looping the string around your finger, and there are lots of tricks—many of which are impossible without practice.

Try mastering a few and showing them off as a party trick! Learning the tricks is tough, but once you’ve got them down, they’re guaranteed to be a hit and draw cheers.

And who knows—practicing for a quick gag might just turn into a full-fledged hobby.

Air band / air guitar

Air band / air guitar

Speaking of air bands, as you know, Golden Bomber is the classic example.

Even if it’s not a full band, Dainoji is a great reference for air guitar! It’s a fantastic party trick that lets anyone feel like they’re playing an instrument, regardless of band experience (lol).

Go ahead and become an air guitar hero and liven up the moment!

dance

I think many people took dance lessons when they were kids.

And for those who say, “I have zero dance experience…,” how about learning a routine as a party trick? There are songs that hype up the room just by dancing to them, like BTS’s “Dynamite” or Sandaime J SOUL BROTHERS from EXILE TRIBE’s “R.Y.U.S.E.I.” Practice just one song relentlessly and get ready for the day you’ll perform it! Men doing dances originally aimed at women also goes over well.

TWICE’s “TT” and Tokimeki♡Sendenbu’s “Suki!” are great picks.

Pour your heart into one song and give the practice your all!

A finger whistle you can play with just one finger

If you can whistle with your fingers, it looks cool and really livens up the moment.

And if you can do it with just one finger and even add pitch, that’s impressive enough to count as a party trick.

It seems Okinawa has many masters of finger whistling, and here’s a video where they share their tips.

Definitely give it a try yourself.
