a bouquet of tulips

How about trying to fold a tulip with origami? It’s a classic idea, but there are many ways to customize it.

For example, if you fold several and bundle them together, you can make a bouquet of tulips, which would look cute displayed in a vase.

A single tulip also has many uses: you can hang it on the wall, stick it onto an illustration, or turn it into a garland.

Try thinking of your own original ways to use it.

By the way, it also looks great combined with other flowers made from origami.

Cherry blossom garland

Cherry blossom garland

This is a garland featuring cherry blossoms, made with pastel colors and patterned paper.

Cherry blossoms are a traditional Japanese flower and strongly associated with celebrations, so they can be seen as a plant that emphasizes the uplifting feeling of spring.

The idea is to fold the patterned paper, cut slits into it, and when you open it up, it forms a cherry blossom shape.

Use pastel colors like a frame to highlight the patterned-paper blossoms; the key is to make this frame wider than the cherry blossom shape you created.

Attach a string at the end to complete the garland.

Pairing it with a sphere made from combined circles might further enhance the mood.

It’s also recommended to try various colors and enjoy the different atmospheres they create.

Tulips made from paper bands

Tulips made from paper bands

This is a tulip-themed decoration made with paper strips.

Tulips, which bloom with large flowers as spring arrives, convey a sense of excitement for the warmer season.

You cut construction paper into strips and use those strips to create a tulip pattern.

Key points include adding curves to the strips and how you make the creases in order to express the softness of the petals.

Once you glue the shapes made from the strips onto a backing sheet, it’s complete.

Experiment with the colors of the strips and the backing to create your own tulips.

Spring tsumami-zaiku

How about giving tsumami-zaiku a try? Tsumami-zaiku is a craft where you use tools like tweezers to fold small pieces of fabric and attach them to paper.

It involves fairly delicate work, which is why it’s often said to be great for cultivating concentration.

By the way, when you use a textured fabric called shibo, it’s known as chirimen-zaiku.

With chirimen-zaiku, you can create pieces that highlight a traditional Japanese aesthetic.

Find a spring-themed subject and give it a try!

Here’s how to make a recommended weeping cherry blossom arch for the sakura season.

First, overlap four sheets of origami paper by 1 centimeter and glue them together to form a long horizontal strip.

Fold it so the right end is on top, overlapping left and right.

Next, fold it in half so the left end is on top.

Then fold it into thirds.

Make sure the edge of the origami is on the right.

Draw half of a cherry blossom, punch some holes with a hole punch, and cut so the shapes connect.

When you open it up, your weeping cherry blossoms are complete! Make as many strands as you like, line them up on a base, and glue them down to create a weeping cherry blossom arch.

It’s perfect for graduation and entrance ceremonies, so be sure to give it a try.
