Pom-pom flower ball

How about making a pom‑pom flower ball with a bright and cute look? It takes some effort, but it’s not as difficult to make as it looks.

Cut a cone shape out of paper and trim off the tip, then snip jagged cuts to create petal shapes.

Next, use a toothpick to curl the petals.

It’s a steady, repetitive task, but this is the key to getting that cute, round pom‑pom look! Finally, gather the curled colored paper and glue it together with wood glue or similar.

It also looks adorable if you stick a half-sphere version on the wall.

Cherry blossom wall hanging

Cherry blossom wall hanging

Make it with origami! Here’s how to create cherry blossoms you can hang on the wall.

First, fold a 7.5 cm × 15 cm sheet of origami paper into an accordion.

Open it, then trim the left edge into a square shape, leaving a little bit connected at the center.

Staple the center, draw a petal shape, cut it out, and open it.

Use the cut-out origami to trace and cut more petals.

On a sheet of colored construction paper, attach an origami border to make a backing.

Next, cut copy paper into thin strips 5 mm wide, gradually increasing their length.

Glue them together to make decorations.

Finally, decorate the backing however you like, and you’re done!

Curtain of cherry blossoms

Curtain of cherry blossoms

This is a cherry blossom curtain with a motif of sakura flowers, which are strongly associated with new beginnings.

It’s made from tissue paper, and because the material is soft and thin, it lets surrounding light become part of the decoration.

You create large sakura flowers at the top and line them up, then hang strands of sakura petal pieces threaded on string from there.

Adding a gradient to the petals is important—the color transitions you create here are the key to making the light look even more beautiful.

Sakura Kusudama

Sakura Kusudama

Let’s make a round, cute cherry blossom kusudama using origami! We’ll create three-dimensional cherry blossom petals out of origami.

Once they’re ready, group them in sets of five to form individual cherry blossoms, then combine those blossoms to assemble a large kusudama.

Apply glue and assemble by imagining the corners being attached to each other.

To avoid gaps, be sure to apply plenty of glue where each flower overlaps—this is the key point.

Finally, attach a white bead to the center of each flower, and you’re done! It’s also fun to vary the size and color.

Cherry blossoms symbolize spring in Japan, and because of when they bloom, they are strongly associated with meetings and farewells.

This is a garland made of paper with a cherry blossom motif that conveys a sense of dimension and cuteness.

You create various types of blossoms—some cut into petal shapes and others leaving only the outline—and connect them with thread.

How you arrange blossoms of different sizes is also key; that arrangement helps create a solid sense of depth.
