Everybody ShakeWada Akiko

This is a commercial showing scenes from the “Japan’s Best Hair Growth Contest” held by Reve 21.
The footage features contestants expressing their excitement about growing new hair, and hearing real users’ voices like this really builds trust, doesn’t it? The background music is an original parody of the familiar song “Everybody Shake,” sung by Akko Wada (Akiko Wada).
You can’t help but be blown away by Akko’s powerful vocals riding the upbeat accompaniment.
It’s safe to say this is one of the most memorable commercial songs representing the 2000s.
HEROMr.Children

This song, released in December 2002 by Mr.Children—the indispensable four-piece rock band in Japanese music history—is a moving work created right after Kazutoshi Sakurai’s return from a cerebellar infarction.
The lyrics, infused with the desire to be someone’s hero, are full of gentle resolve: not to be a dazzling presence, but to stand by someone important in everyday life.
Chosen as the theme song for the NTT DoCoMo Group’s 10th-anniversary commercial, it became a long-running hit, ranking 9th on the 2003 annual singles chart.
It’s a number to play when you want to reaffirm your feelings for someone important or when you need a nudge forward.
Madder-colored skyRemioromen

Around 2007, Remioromen’s song “Akanesora” was featured in a series of JRA commercials.
In addition to appearing in multiple versions of the JRA ads, it was also used in a RecoChoku commercial, so many people may remember hearing it on TV at the time.
Released in 2007, the track is crafted as a rock ballad with beautiful piano and string accompaniment.
Its flowing melody and lyrics—optimistic words set against the image of cherry blossoms drifting in the air—make it a particularly memorable song.
Peach-Colored Unrequited LoveMatsuura Aya

Released in February 2002 as Aya Matsuura’s fifth single, this song was featured in Shiseido’s “Tissera Mune-Kyun Peach” commercial, which also drew attention for Matsuura’s own appearance.
It peaked at No.
2 on the Oricon Weekly Chart, sold over 220,000 copies, and was included on the album T.W.O.
The lyrics liken the flutter of unrequited love to a peach-pink hue, and the bouncy melody that kicks off with a shouted call is instantly memorable—just listening to it lifts your spirits.
It’s the perfect track for getting hyped at karaoke with friends after school or for those heart-pounding moments when you’re nursing a crush.
Aim for tomorrow!TOKIO

This commercial shows Yuko Oshima playing a high school student on her first day of school.
It promotes starting the Shinken Zemi High School Course when you enter high school, and also introduces a limited-time campaign where you can get an electronic Japanese–English dictionary with a listening function.
Oshima’s energetic presence really stands out.
The background music is TOKIO’s “Aiming for Tomorrow!,” written specifically for this commercial.
The lyrics, which encourage pressing forward with hope and looking only ahead, are truly captivating.
Merry XmasBoA

BoA’s 15th single, “Meri Kuri,” was released in 2004.
At the time, the song was used in a commercial for Toshiba’s mobile phone, the au CDMA 1X WIN W21T.
As the shortened form of “Merry Christmas” suggests, it’s a love ballad about couples during the Christmas season.
It’s also well known for being included as a hidden track on the Japanese edition of Weezer’s Red Album.
It’s the kind of love song you find yourself wanting to listen to when Christmas comes around.
All of the YouthFujifaburikku

A newly licensed young man drives his mother and siblings to McDonald’s in this commercial.
Despite his awkward driving, the image of the mother happily enjoying being taken for a drive by her son is memorable.
The CM features “Wakamono no Subete,” a long-standing staple summer song by a rock band, playing in the background.
The sections leading up to the chorus contain many low notes, so it’s especially recommended for men with lower voices.
However, since the melody’s pitch rises and falls, it’s best to listen to it several times carefully before singing!
