They’re a British group who debuted in Australia and made their name in the United States—quite a complicated background, haha.
This song, used in a 2008 commercial for Honda’s Odyssey minivan, gained popularity with its funky sound and became an international hit.
Jerk It OutCaesars
Caesars is a rock band that has gained popularity for a sound rooted in alternative rock and garage rock.
Hailing from Sweden, the band was originally called Caesars Palace, but since there was a casino with the same name in the United States, they changed their name to Caesars for their U.S.
debut.
The song that sparked their breakthrough is Jerk It Out, which gained international popularity after being used in an iPod commercial.
DRAGOSTEA DIN TEIO-Zone
O-Zone is a music group from Moldova.
They gained international popularity with their song Dragostea Din Tei, which was also used in a Japanese commercial for Lotte’s Ice Breakers.
If you’re thinking, “I’ve never heard of them—was it really a hit?” here’s a hint: the song’s Japanese title is Koi no Maiahi! Hearing that title will probably make a lot of people go, “Oh, that one!” It’s currently trending on TikTok as well, so younger generations are likely familiar with it.
You’re BeautifulJames Blunt
James Blunt is a singer-songwriter from England with the unusual background of being a former soldier.
His song “You’re Beautiful” is his biggest hit and was used in commercials for Toyota and the shampoo brand TSUBAKI.
Although it’s a very well-known song, it actually received very low acclaim overseas; because it became too much of a hit, people ended up disliking it.
In a UK poll of the most annoying things, it even took first place (lol).
It’s a rather sad reason—being too successful.
Digital LoveDaft Punk
Daft Punk is an electronic duo from France.
They’re internationally popular artists known for an electro sound rooted in house and techno.
Their biggest draw is, without a doubt, their masterful sampling.
They arrange original tracks that are so quirky you can’t help but think, “You sampled it from there?” Their song Digital Love is renowned as one of their classics and was used in a GAP commercial, among others.
