Walkie Talkie ManSteriogram

When you think of the iPod and iTunes commercials from the 2000s, it has to be those dance ads with the silhouetted figures.
Among them, the one that really stood out for its super punky, catchy sound featured “Walkie Talkie Man” by the New Zealand rock band Steriogram.
Released in 2004, the track packs a driving guitar sound and rapid-fire vocals that are exhilarating.
If you enjoy rock that gets your energy up, this one comes highly recommended.
It’s My LifeBon Jovi

This is the song “It’s My Life” by the American rock band Bon Jovi.
Many people probably know it because Onimatsu Tsubaki (Tsubaki Oniyako) often does an impression of it.
Perhaps due to their high popularity in Japan, their songs are frequently used in commercials, such as for Mitsubishi Motors.
You Raise Me UpCeltic Woman

This is the famous song “You Raise Me Up” by Celtic Woman, an Irish female music group, released in 2005.
The song was used in a commercial for Panasonic’s Full HD television “VIERA.”
20th Century BoyT-REX

The song used in Toyota’s Voxy minivan commercial in 2007 featured Tomoyasu Hotei, Tadanobu Asano, and Takashi Sorimachi appearing together.
The track is a 1973 piece by the British glam rock band T.
Rex, and it’s also well known as the theme song for the film “20th Century Boys.”
Dans La NuitSarah Brightman

This commercial grandly hypes just how new Panasonic’s VIERA is, building a sweeping sense of anticipation.
Its thin profile and picture quality are major selling points, conveying a thrill as if the future were drawing near.
The music that further highlights the epic yet refreshing atmosphere of the visuals is Sarah Brightman’s “Dans La Nuit.” With gently resonant piano layered with her crystal-clear vocals, the moving progression creates a majestic ambiance.

AmarantineEnya

This commercial focuses on the fact that VIERA is an IPS LCD TV, conveying—through narration by Koyuki—how its picture looks different from before.
It especially emphasizes the view from an angle, highlighting that images which used to feel off now appear beautiful.
Enhancing this sense of a grand, near-futuristic atmosphere is Enya’s “Amarantine.” The gentle rhythm marked by strings and the crystalline vocals are striking, and even as the piece unfolds softly, it conveys a moving sense of emotion.
As I AmBilly Joel

This is the song that was used in Toyota’s Estima minivan commercial in 2008.
It’s Billy Joel’s 1977 hit and one of his signature works.
With its medium-slow tempo, it exudes an elegant, calm atmosphere—truly a masterpiece among masterpieces.
