Games you can do in 10 minutes: ideas for fun activities indoors and outdoors (1–10)
Teleportation Game

If you have some newspapers, this is a game you should definitely try.
Roll several sheets into sticks with a few people.
Everyone holds the stick they made, stands in a circle, leaves their stick standing, and moves to the next spot.
As you move, the person coming from the next spot must catch the stick you left before it falls.
Since the game is called the Teleportation Game, leave only the stick and move yourself quickly.
Anyone who fails to catch the stick properly is out.
As the number of players decreases, widen the spacing between people.
The distance you move will increase, making the sticks harder to grab and raising the difficulty.
Simple rhythm game

Let me introduce a simple rhythm game that can also serve as jump rope practice.
Place a circle on the ground to mark the starting position, and use it as your reference point for jumping.
Follow the caller’s instructions on where to jump.
At first, you’ll get simple commands like “forward,” “right,” and “up,” but as the level increases, combinations like “right-left” or “front-back” get mixed in, testing your reflexes.
The more complex it gets, the more excited kids are likely to be.
It doesn’t take up much space, so give it a try!
Birthday line

Within the time limit, let’s try lining up in a single row in order of birthdays.
The rule here is that you must not say your exact date of birth.
If everyone clearly knows the others’ birthdates, you can line up smoothly.
But if someone’s is unknown, you’ll have to exchange clues and reason it out as you line up.
It might be tricky to come up with hints that others can understand, like “around the middle of the season.” If you think it through and line up correctly with no mistakes, it should be a big hit.
Having kids from various age groups—not just those born in the same year—will make it both more fun and more challenging.

Tag, child-catching demon (a variant of tag called “Kotorooni”/“Kotoro-oni”).

It’s a game played with an “it” (oni) and a line of children.
In regular tag, you run away so you don’t get caught by the tagger, right? In Kotorogui, the oni targets the child at the end of a single-file line.
The oni moves to try to tag the last child with a ball.
The child at the front of the line spreads their arms to guard the last child from the oni.
It’s surprisingly strenuous, making it perfect for kids who want to be active.
As the line gets longer, it becomes easier for the oni to exploit gaps in the guard.
Sitting tag

How about trying a seated game of tag that you can play indoors? First, choose who’s “it,” and have everyone—including the tagger—start in a seated position.
It’s best if people are spaced a little apart.
The rule is that everyone must keep their bottoms on the floor even while moving.
Moving while your bottom stays on the floor is tricky and slows you down more than you’d think—that frustrating feeling is what makes it so fun.
Since you can’t move very far, you can enjoy it in a small space.
Give it a try!
Small Number Game

Do you know the Small Number Game? First, ask the children to choose one favorite number between 1 and 20.
I will call out the numbers in descending order, and when I reach the number they chose, they stand up.
If they are the only one who stands up at that moment, they become the champion and remain standing.
If two or more stand up at the same time, that’s a bust, and they have to sit down.
If someone becomes the champion with a smaller number, the previous champion sits down.
It’s fun because strategy and mind games are important.
Drop the Handkerchief

Speaking of Drop the Handkerchief, it’s a classic indoor game that’s been around forever, and it’s still loved because it’s thrilling and fun.
First, choose the tagger.
The tagger walks around the outside of the circle and secretly drops a handkerchief behind someone.
After dropping it, the tagger runs and completes a lap to sit in the spot of the person they dropped it behind.
If the person who had the handkerchief dropped behind them catches the tagger before they finish the lap, the tagger remains the tagger for another round.
If the person doesn’t notice even after the tagger completes the lap, they go to the center of the circle and can’t join the next game.
