People are posting “I love this commercial!” one after another on social media.

A coworker—a middle-aged woman—tries to teach her the new Book Off catchphrase, “Wanna swing by Book Off on the way?” In one version of the commercial, she stays silent and lets it pass; in the other, she honestly admits, “I’d rather not.”

Hama-chan, the downtown secondhand bookstore owner, recommends a book to Matsu-chan, who’s playing a customer: “It’s a masterpiece—The Story of Kura Sushi.” When Matsu-chan reaches to pick it up, Hama-chan stops him, saying, “Only if you’re buying it.” It’s just that brief exchange, but the setup has a heartwarming feel.

The occasional shots of sushi look truly delicious!

This cleverly sarcastic, quintessentially international-style commercial is for Google’s smartphone, the Pixel.

It’s structured as a conversation between the rival devices—the iPhone and the Pixel—in which the Pixel’s advantages over the iPhone are revealed one after another.

In the latter half of the ad, a phrase from the song “Guerrilla” by San plays.

The snippet used in the commercial gives off a cool vibe, but if you listen to the whole track, you’ll be captivated by its catchiness and bright, fun atmosphere.
