[Childcare] Halloween Games! Simple and Fun Ideas [Part 3]
Last updated:

There are so many things kids look forward to on Halloween, aren’t there? Getting candy, special event-themed school lunches and snacks, and of course—games! When Halloween-themed characters appear in a game, or when you get to become a character yourself, the usual games get a touch of spookiness and excitement, and things get really lively! This time, we’re sharing lots of ideas for games that will hype up Halloween, so be sure to try them out at your event on the day!

[Childcare] Halloween Games! Simple and Fun Ideas [Part 3] (1–10)

Ghost Shooter

Let’s make a ghost shooter toy that launches a paper cup using paper cups, cotton swabs, and rubber bands.

First, prepare two paper cups with the bottoms cut out.

For the third paper cup, poke a small hole in the center of the bottom and cut off about 5 cm from the rim.

Next, tie a rubber band to the shaft of a cotton swab and thread it through the small hole in the cup you just prepared—that completes the build.

To play, stack the two bottomless paper cups together, then place the cup with the rubber band on top.

Pull the rubber band and release it… and the cup with the rubber band will shoot out with force! It would be fun to make targets, like balloons, and play a shooting game.

You can also decorate the paper cups by drawing ghost faces or adding stickers.

♬ Mario – JJD

A stretchy ghost pulling game where you tug on paper that extends from a box.

Prepare a box with a ghost illustration attached, and create a mechanism where paper comes out when you pull it.

By setting the paper under the ghost, you can enjoy the feeling that the ghost is stretching.

You can set a time limit and compete for the longest pull, or cut the paper that comes out and use it for other crafts—also recommended.

Besides ghosts, try making Halloween-themed games featuring jack-o’-lanterns, bats, and more.

Splash Tower is a game where you stack cups and sheets of paper, then pull the papers out in one swift motion.

The key is to pull the paper toward you quickly while making sure the cups don’t scatter.

Secure the bottom cup with duct tape or similar, and stack paper and cups alternately.

Prepare as many sheets of paper as there are players, and at the signal, everyone pulls their paper at the same time.

If all the cups remain stacked, the challenge is a success.

Try decorating the cups with Halloween-themed stickers or drawings and give it a go!

♬ Crazy Party Night – Kyary Pamyu Pamyu

A nerve-testing game where you make cuts in construction paper with tape hanging from it.

Hold the prepared construction paper in your hand and attach tape to the bottom edge.

Players take turns cutting slits into the paper, and whoever causes the tape to fall loses.

It’s fun with two people or with a group taking turns.

You can also draw handprint art or illustrations with a Halloween theme beforehand.

It’s a game where you can enjoy the thrill and suspense of not knowing when the tape will drop.

Balloon Drop Game

Use a circulator that blows air upward to keep an inflated balloon floating in the air.

Imagine the balloon is a ghost and use a blow dart to knock it down in a game of ghost hunting.

You can make relatively safe blow darts using origami paper, but they can be dangerous if they hit someone, so be sure never to aim or shoot where people are present.

Knock knock knock knock, Hello Halloween!

We did the fingerplay song “Ton ton ton ton Hello Halloween” [Nursery Rhymes & Finger Plays] HELLOWEEN #ハロウィン #Halloween
Knock knock knock knock, Hello Halloween!

This is “Ton ton ton ton Hallo Halloween,” a Halloween-themed arrangement of the familiar fingerplay song “Hige Jiisan.” The melody is the same as “Hige Jiisan,” but the lyrics and accompanying hand motions are changed for Halloween.

Instead of turning into a grandpa or a tengu like in the original, you transform into Halloween favorites like a pumpkin, Frankenstein, and Dracula.

The hand choreography also changes to match each character.

Although scary monsters appear, it’s an easy fingerplay that even small children can enjoy without getting frightened!

Apple bobbing

Apple bobbing

There are many Halloween costumes, but one of the most popular characters is the witch.

This is a game themed after the apple witch from Snow White, using apples.

The rules are simple: without using your hands, whoever can quickly grab an apple floating in water using only their mouth wins.

It’s simple, yet guaranteed to get everyone excited! Enjoy the apples used in the game as a snack afterward.
