Jack-o’-lantern
When thinking about Halloween decorations, the first thing that comes to mind is the jack-o’-lantern.
In Japan, it’s also called a pumpkin lantern.
However, making one takes a lot of effort, like hollowing out and carving the pumpkin.
So here’s a method I’d like to introduce: making a jack-o’-lantern using a cup and origami paper.
By simply attaching strips of origami paper radially onto a paper cup, you can create a surprisingly authentic look.
Just be careful with small flames, since it’s made of paper.
Ghost of the cupcake container
When you suddenly want to add more decorations, cupcake-liner ghosts are a great choice.
All you need are cupcake liners.
Cut one in half, roll it up, and staple it.
Draw a face, and in no time you’ve got a ghost.
Depending on the cupcake liners you use, you can even change up the patterns for a fun variation.
You can place the ghosts on a table or stick them on the wall.
They’re also fun to use like finger puppets.
Try making them together with your students!
Halloween Origami
You often see wreaths around Christmastime.
It’s also a great idea to decorate with a Halloween-themed version of one.
You can even make it using only origami, so it’s perfect if you want the children to take the lead in a craft activity.
Another feature of this Halloween wreath is how easy it is to add originality.
Try placing a ghost in the center of the wreath, or a black cat—come up with whatever designs you like.
There are many folding instructions available online, so it’s a good idea to look those up as well.
Halloween lantern
When it comes to decorations that are both cute and practical, Halloween lanterns are a great choice.
They may seem difficult to make, but they’re surprisingly easy.
First, cut construction paper to your desired size, then cut it into an accordion shape.
Make several of these and glue them together to form the body.
For the top part where you attach a wire handle, using the core of a roll of cellophane tape is also recommended.
After that, just give it a cute face.
Using white construction paper to make a ghost lantern is a fun idea, too.

When it comes to classic decorations, paper flowers are the go-to.
They’re versatile—you can stick them on walls and use them in all kinds of ways.
But when you think of flowers that suit Halloween, it’s hard to come up with ideas.
In that case, why not use pumpkin flowers as a motif? Or try making flowers in purple or black for a mysterious vibe—that can be fun too.
If you want paper flowers with a striking look, I also recommend creating a large one and layering small flowers on top.
It adds a real sense of richness and depth!
Origami Spider Web
Many people might find them unpleasant in everyday life, but when it comes to Halloween decorations, spider webs are a beloved classic thanks to their striking design.
If you make colorful spider webs out of origami and stick them on the wall, they alone can brighten up the event.
However, because creating a convincing web requires detailed cutting with scissors, adults should handle the crafting if it’s too difficult for children.
The unusually colorful designs boost the festive mood and make the decorations feel even more Halloween-like.
yarn pumpkin
When it comes to Halloween, pumpkins are a must.
So here’s a craft I’d like to introduce: making yarn pumpkins.
First, wrap yellow yarn around a fork.
Then thread yarn through the center and tie it to form a pumpkin shape.
Add a stem using green yarn.
For the finished pumpkins, I recommend threading them onto pipe cleaners to make a wreath.
You can also add a magnet and stick them on a chalkboard as another fun variation.
Start by making lots of them and then think about how you want to use them!
3D Halloween pumpkin
When it comes to decorating for a Halloween event, you’ll come up with all kinds of ideas, but pumpkins are definitely a must, aren’t they? In the same way, you can prepare multiple pieces of colored paper cut into pumpkin shapes and glue them together to create a three-dimensional object.
Of course, flat illustrations can also brighten up the event, but making it three-dimensional helps create a more pumpkin-like form, so it’s highly recommended.
It’s easy to make, so if you work on it with your children, it’s sure to boost the excitement from the preparation stage.
Witch’s broom
If you want to try a decoration unlike anything you’ve seen elsewhere, we recommend making a witch’s broom.
Even though it’s a witch’s broom, it’s a miniature, so it’s easy to make.
First, prepare paper cord cut into pieces about 5 cm long.
Bundle them together and fasten them to a bamboo skewer with a rubber band.
Then just snip off the tip of the skewer and you’re done.
It looks cute as a decoration, but you could also leave the tip uncut and stick it into food.
By the way, if you roughly trim the ends of the paper cord, it gives it even more of a witchy feel.
Halloween ghost
When we do decorations and crafts, we often use construction paper.
And we usually throw away the scraps as trash, right? But those scraps actually have a surprising use! You can use them to make Halloween ghosts.
First, prepare a balloon and attach crumpled pieces of construction paper all over it.
Then cut out facial features from construction paper and stick those on as well.
Finally, pop the balloon and remove it—your ghost is complete.
Since the inside is hollow, you can fill it with candy or light it up like a lantern, so there are plenty of ways to use it.
