Heart of GlassBlondie

A hit song by Blondie, the American band fronted by female vocalist Debbie Harry.

It was released in 1979.

The song was used in commercials for Toyota’s AQUA, H&M (featuring Miranda Kerr), and Noevir cosmetics.

KILLING ME SOFTLYRoberta Flack

Roberta Flack’s 1971 hit song.

Its Japanese title is “Yasashiku Utatte” (“Sing Gently”).

Lieberman’s original version, released in 1972, did not become a hit.

However, there’s an anecdote that Roberta Flack happened to hear the song as in-flight background music, liked it, and recorded it, and her version became a major hit.

In Japan, it became very well known as the commercial song for Nescafé Excella instant coffee.

Long Train Runnin’Doobie Brothers

A 1973 release by The Doobie Brothers.

Its intro guitar cutting is particularly memorable, and commercials always start from that intro, don’t they? It’s been used in car-related ads, such as Toyota’s “Chaser” and SUBARU commercials.

Thats the way a Woman isMessengers

A hit song by The Messengers, released in 1971.

The Japanese title is “That Girl on My Mind.” You’ve probably heard the “Ah-ah-ahhh” phrase at least once, right? It was used in commercials for Asahi Beer’s Aqua Zero, Kirin Beverage’s FIRE, and Otsuka Pharmaceutical’s Amino-Value.

CeciliaSimon&Garfunkel

Though Simon & Garfunkel are often remembered for their somewhat somber image in songs like The Sound of Silence and Bridge Over Troubled Water, they show a completely different, bright and cheerful side in Cecilia.

Cecilia is well known from the Honda Crossroad and Lowrys Farm commercials.

It’s marked by an irresistibly catchy beat—but in fact, there are no drums on this track.

At a party they attended, they created the beat by banging on a bench as a drum substitute, and later processed that recording with reverb and other effects.

It’s a song that’s not only upbeat in tone but also delightfully inventive in its concept!

Ann Lewis’s cover was used in a commercial for the cosmetics brand Noevir, and moumoon’s cover appeared in Kao’s Sofina jenne campaign, among many other artist covers featured in various ads.

Her sweet, bittersweet vocals are sure to make your heart flutter.
