There are times, like at company parties or get-togethers with friends, when you’re expected to show off a little party trick, right? When it comes to classic party tricks, doing impressions is the go-to.

Among those, impressions of anime characters really liven things up! In this article, we’ll introduce some staple anime characters for impressions.

We’ve gathered the classics that almost everyone has tried at least once, like Shinnosuke Nohara and Mickey Mouse.

If you’re not sure what to do, use the characters we introduce as a reference and give it a try!

Classic Characters (1–10)

Colonel Muska

This is Colonel Muska, the villain from the Studio Ghibli film Castle in the Sky.

If you recall scenes from the movie, lots of famous lines will come to mind.

Imitating the scene where he screams, “My eyes, my eyes!” is a classic.

Go ahead and get into character!

Shinnosuke Nohara

Characters with strong intonation are easy to imitate, right? So the one I’d like to introduce is Shinnosuke Nohara.

Many of you probably know him as the main character of Crayon Shin-chan.

He’s a kindergartener, but it’s funny how he sometimes says things that sound grown-up or completely out of left field.

That’s why I recommend imagining what Shinnosuke Nohara might say and trying to imitate him.

Once you get used to it, you can even do things like a “food review as Shinnosuke Nohara.”

Ojarumaru

This is an impression of Ojarumaru, the main character from the NHK anime Ojarumaru.

Since the anime has been running for a long time, many people know it, and it’s easy to imitate—so it’s sure to liven up any party.

It’s a cute character, so it’s especially recommended for women.

Classic Characters (11–20)

Pooh

[Super Easy] How to Imitate Pooh’s Voice [Voice Impression Tutorial]
Pooh

Disney adapted A.

A.

Milne’s children’s novel Winnie-the-Pooh into an animated series, and now he’s a soothing character loved all around the world.

Many people may have thought he was an original character created by Disney.

The key to impersonating him is a tired, troubled-sounding sigh, like “haaah,” or something like a yawn, “fwaaah.” If you keep your natural voice and energy but speak very, very slowly, you’ll sound exactly like Pooh.

His signature line is “I do love honey.” It’s an easy impression, so when in doubt, go with Pooh!

Frieza

If you’re thinking, “Is there a voice impression that’ll be a hit at the company drinking party?”, then you should definitely master Frieza’s voice.

He appears as a villain in the national hit anime Dragon Ball, and his polite way of speaking—whether to allies or enemies—is memorable.

Because the series is loved by a wide range of generations, it’s great for communicating with people of different ages.

The key to the impression is to smooth your airflow, change your vocal quality, and open your throat vertically.

Once you can hit a pitch similar to Frieza’s voice, mix in a bit of your natural voice at the end.

If you can deliver the famous line, “My power level is 530,000,” you’re sure to get the crowd going.

Mickey Mouse

Haven’t we all tried doing a Mickey Mouse impression for fun at some point? There’s just something about that distinctive voice and energy—it makes you want to imitate it.

Here’s a simple way to level up your Mickey impression: engage your abdominal muscles when you speak.

Mickey’s voice is surprisingly powerful, so putting some real oomph into it is key! The comedian Nadal is also famous for his Mickey Mouse impression—definitely check it out for reference!

Donald Duck

Another famous and easy-to-imitate character is Donald Duck.

Donald Duck is a duck character who appears in Disney works.

Speaking of Donald Duck, it’s that distinctive speech mixed with a “gwa, gwa” quacking sound, isn’t it? In fact, that voice is performed by voice actors.

In the Japanese versions, Koichi Yamadera and Tokio Seki, among others, provide the voice.

What they have in common is a somewhat muffled sound, perhaps.

Since it’s not a sound we usually make, it may take some practice to get the hang of it, but give it a try!
