[Easy to Try] Anime That Are Simple to Imitate: Characters That Are Easy to Voice Imitate

There are times, like at company parties or get-togethers with friends, when you’re expected to show off a little party trick, right? When it comes to classic party tricks, doing impressions is the go-to.

Among those, impressions of anime characters really liven things up! In this article, we’ll introduce some staple anime characters for impressions.

We’ve gathered the classics that almost everyone has tried at least once, like Shinnosuke Nohara and Mickey Mouse.

If you’re not sure what to do, use the characters we introduce as a reference and give it a try!

Popular anime protagonists (1–10)

Anpanman

One example of an impression where you end up saying the character’s name is Anpanman.

Everyone’s heard the line, “I’m Anpanman!” right? Try to speak energetically and clearly! Engage your core and give it a go!

Tanjiro Kamado

[Demon Slayer] Kamado Tanjiro — voice impression
Tanjiro Kamado

How about Tanjiro Kamado, the protagonist of the wildly popular, needs-no-introduction Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba? Tanjiro is known for his earnest personality, so being able to convey that inner character is key! It might help to switch between a slightly nasal tone for his louder moments and a softer tone for his usual gentle vibe.

Of course, you can practice while watching the Demon Slayer anime, but Natsuki Hanae, Tanjiro’s voice actor, also runs his own YouTube channel, so you can use his videos as references too.

Ponyo

Ponyo loves Sosuke.
Ponyo

Ponyo is the fish girl who appears in Studio Ghibli’s film Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea.

Along with the movie itself, both the theme song and Ponyo became very popular.

When doing an impression, try saying lines like “Ponyo loves Sosuke!” or “Ponyo will become human!” while channeling Ponyo’s adorable vibe.

Even if you just capture the general feel, anyone who knows the film will likely recognize it as “Ponyo” right away.

It’s also a good idea to swap out “Sosuke” with the name of someone who’s there and say “Ponyo loves [Name]!”

Gintoki Sakata

[Voice Impression] Gintoki Voice Imitation Lesson! How to sound like Gintoki lol
Gintoki Sakata

Gintama, a hugely popular series in both manga and anime/film form, features its protagonist, Gintoki Sakata.

His languid, laid-back way of speaking is especially memorable, but so are his shouty lines and those cool, serious moments! His voice is generally low and cool, so if you’re a man with a naturally deep voice, you can imitate him pretty easily just by mimicking that lazy delivery.

By tweaking your intonation and drawing out sentence endings, you can recreate that languid speaking style.

Sun Wukong

Even beginners at voice impersonations will find Son Goku from Dragon Ball an easy and foolproof choice.

Goku’s distinctive sentence endings and energetic way of speaking make him simple to imitate and fun for those around you.

Phrases like “omee,” “ora,” and “I’ll do XX!” (〇〇 suzzo) are instantly recognizable and clearly signal who you’re impersonating, so they’re highly recommended.

Try mimicking this friendly character to liven up communication with friends and acquaintances.

Yuji Itadori

[Jujutsu Kaisen] [Ryomen Sukuna] [Voice Imitation] I did a voice impression of the interactions between Itadori and Sukuna!!
Yuji Itadori

Based on a Jump manga and adapted into an anime in 2020, Jujutsu Kaisen sparked a massive boom.

Its dark worldview and battles that combine mind games with action captivated many viewers.

That makes the protagonist, Yuji Itadori, a surefire character for impressions! He’s basically an ordinary high school boy, so the key is conveying that youthful vibe.

Also, Yuji has an alternate personality inside him called Ryomen Sukuna—and they’re even voiced by different actors.

So if you can play a double role and do a back-and-forth, it’ll feel even more like Yuji.

Amuro Ray

You hit me! Not even my father ever slapped me! (Amuro Ray / Mobile Suit Gundam, Episode 9) [Famous Gundam quote/scene]
Amuro Ray

The anime Mobile Suit Gundam is loved by people of all ages.

How about trying your hand at impersonating its protagonist, Amuro Ray? Amuro Ray impressions are a classic—lots of people perform them.

It’s fine to use those as references, but first, I’d like you to carefully listen to the original performance by Toru Furuya.

By the way, the famous line “Even my father never hit me!” appears in episode 9.

It’s great when a character comes through just from a single line.
