Popular anime protagonists (1–10)
Shinji Ikari

The anime Neon Genesis Evangelion, which became a social phenomenon, is a great choice—and trying your hand at its protagonist, Shinji Ikari, is recommended.
It’s loved by a wide range of generations, so it’s well-suited for performing at company gatherings.
If you give it a try, start by deciding which lines to imitate.
Since Shinji Ikari’s manner of speaking isn’t particularly distinctive, it’s easier to get the point across by using famous quotes.
That said, picking out a niche scene that makes fans smirk could also go over well.
Naruto

Naruto, the protagonist of the anime Naruto, which tells stories about ninjas.
Given the series’ strong popularity overseas, doing an impression of him in front of foreigners might go over well.
You could even practice some acrobatic moves and show them off.
Doraemon

Doraemon is the main character of a nationally beloved anime.
It’s no exaggeration to say that everyone knows him.
Speaking of Doraemon, his voice is quite distinctive.
In the current voice actor Wasabi Mizuta’s version, it gives a cute impression despite being husky, while in the version performed by Nobuyo Oyama, it has a raspy tone.
It would be fun to imitate both and compare them.
By the way, Masako Nozawa has also voiced Doraemon at one point.
If you’re curious, look it up.
Popular Anime Protagonists (11–20)
Masuo-san

Sazae-san is a nationally beloved anime that almost everyone in Japan likely knows.
Among its characters, Masuo-san is especially notable for his distinctive way of speaking.
First, try practicing his unique intonation with the rising sentence endings.
There are videos on YouTube that teach tips for doing impressions, so you can watch those as you practice.
Also, Masuo-san typically plays the straight man (tsukkomi), which makes it easy to combine his impression with others—that’s another advantage.
Try working on it while brainstorming different ideas.
Lupin the Third

If you’re going to talk about impressions of anime characters, you can’t leave out Lupin the Third.
Lupin the Third is the protagonist of the anime of the same name, and he’s strongly associated with switching between a playful tone and a serious one.
It’s said that his distinctive phrasing was created by Yasuo Yamada, the voice actor who originally played him.
And when it comes to Lupin the Third, it’s also well known that impressionist Kanichi Kurita was chosen as the second-generation voice because his impersonation was of such high quality.
Let’s try some famous lines!
Monkey D. Luffy

The hugely popular anime One Piece.
How about doing an impression of its protagonist, Monkey D.
Luffy? He’s a character known by both adults and kids, so it always goes over well! If you can mimic Luffy’s voice, you can also do Kirimaru from Nintama Rantarō and Krillin from Dragon Ball.
Edogawa Conan

Imitating Conan Edogawa, the protagonist of Detective Conan, is also highly recommended! It’s easy to adapt his lines to fit the situation, so it’s very versatile.
The trick is to aim for a childlike voice with a slightly nasal tone.
And if you can also mimic the way his speaking style changes as he corners the culprit with brilliant deductions, you’ll have it down perfectly!
