Eiichi Ohtaki, the guitarist-vocalist of the indispensable band Happy End in the history of Japanese rock and a celebrated solo artist, was born in Yanagawa Village, Esashi District, Iwate Prefecture.
Although he passed away at the age of 65, much to the sorrow of many, he continues to exert a profound influence on countless artists.
The album “A LONG VACATION,” for which Takashi Matsumoto—Happy End’s lyricist and drummer—wrote most of the lyrics, is a true masterpiece among masterpieces, so be sure to savor the brilliance of its lyrics, melodies, and arrangements to the fullest!

Nisshoku Natsuko is a singer-songwriter from Iwate Prefecture who performs piano-and-vocal sets and still lives there.
She started playing piano at nine, began writing lyrics and composing at twelve, and has been active as a full-fledged artist since her second year of high school.
Her firm, resonant voice is captivating, and her melodies—infused with a distinctive sensibility—are addictively appealing.
With just a piano, she delivers a one-of-a-kind performance style that not only carries the melody but also carves out the rhythm.

Omoide-bashi (Omoide Bridge)N.S.P

NSP is a three-piece folk band from Iwate that originally performed as amateurs under the name New Sadistic Pink.
They debuted in 1973 with “Sayonara,” and subsequent releases also became hits.
Among them, “The Legend of the Red Thread” was a major success, leading to their recognition as pioneers of lyrical folk that delicately portrays longing and melancholy.
If you’re looking for nostalgic, heart-touching music, give NSP’s work a listen.
In this day and age, it’s bound to feel even more poignant.
wingsMatsumoto Tetsuya

Singer-songwriter Tetsuya Matsumoto was born in Mizusawa, Iwate Prefecture, and grew up in Ofunato.
In 2006, he was appointed an Iwate Cultural Ambassador by the prefecture and has been engaged in community-rooted activities.
Having endured a harrowing childhood, he first became interested in music when he encountered the acoustic guitar in fifth grade.
He actively participates in volunteer work and in recovery efforts for the Great East Japan Earthquake, which speaks to his genuine character.
The more you learn about his background, the more deeply his gentle voice and lyrics resonate in your heart!

Keiko Fuji, an enka singer born in Ichinoseki, Iwate Prefecture.
Both of her parents were rokyoku performers, and Fuji herself is the mother of Hikaru Utada—clear proof of the rich musical talent in her lineage.
She debuted in 1969 with “Shinjuku no Onna,” delivering powerful performances with her naturally husky voice in songs set against the nightlife.
Many of her songs capture the melancholy and resilience felt by women, and they’re still often heard in drinking spots today.
Savor the depth of emotion in her lyrics.
LAY YOUR HANDS ON ME(Short Ver.)Kawashima Michiyuki (BOOM BOOM SATELLITES)

The rock unit BOOM BOOM SATELLITES, affectionately known as “Bunsate,” featured guitarist-vocalist Michiyuki Kawashima, who was from Morioka City in Iwate Prefecture.
Formed in 1990, they debuted in 1997 on Belgium’s R&S Records, a label regarded as hugely influential in the techno scene.
Their distinctive fusion of techno and rock earned acclaim both in Japan and abroad, expanding their reach.
In 2016, Kawashima sadly passed away at the young age of 47, and the following year Bunsate ended their activities.
Even so, their blend of uplifting beats and immersive band sound still sounds incredibly cool today!
