Bands, artists, and singers from the Kansai region (131–140)
Summer FighterKamogawa

As their name suggests, Kamogawa is a band from Kyoto Prefecture.
The group was originally formed when vocalist-guitarist Kiyotora Mezaki, bassist Tsugu, and drummer N met through a band club at Ritsumeikan University.
Currently, Kiyotora Mezaki is active as a solo artist under the name “Kamogawa.” A distinctive trait is that every album title includes the single character for “kamo” (duck).
Their song “Summer Fighter” was used as the ending theme for the anime Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
National Route 2gagaga supi
When it comes to youth punk bands from Kobe, you simply can’t leave them out! They’ve produced countless classics and, beyond their large following in the rock scene, they’re widely known in living rooms across Japan for things like their commercial work, including a cover of “Ningen tte iina.” Their appeal lies in singing honestly and unadorned, just as they are—an approach that hasn’t changed since their formation in 1997 and continues to grip the hearts of many fans.
They’re a band whose raw, high-energy, and sincere live performances you should absolutely experience in person.
hereMaruyama Ryuhei

He’s Kanjani∞’s variety-show specialist—an idol with his own signature gag—yet he also shines as a bassist on music programs.
His sweet singing voice is popular among fans, and many are captivated by that contrast.
His solo songs are all uplifting.
At concerts, he gives fan service more wholeheartedly than anyone.
He’s the only member from Kyoto, and the gentle Kyoto dialect that comes out when he speaks is soothing.
experienceHenmi Mari

Mari Henmi was born in Zushi, Kanagawa Prefecture, and spent many of her early years in Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture.
She is of mixed heritage, with a Spanish-American father and a Japanese mother.
She studied ballet in childhood and reportedly dreamed of becoming a ballerina while in elementary school.
She made her singing debut in 1960 and drew attention as a sexy kayō (pop) singer with her second single, “Keiken” (Experience).

An indie rock trio that met at a music vocational school in Osaka and formed in November 2023.
The West Coast–inspired sound woven by ASUKA, ARISA, and Tomo is a rare style in Japan’s indie scene and has been drawing attention.
They released their first music video in December 2023 and played their first live show the following January.
In July 2024, they released their debut EP, “How was it?”, with one of its tracks selected as the ending theme on Yomiuri TV, steadily building momentum.
Highly recommended for fans of breezy West Coast rock and anyone looking for a fresh new girls’ band.
HONEYL’Arc〜en〜Ciel

Did you know that the famous rock band everyone knows, L’Arc~en~Ciel, actually hails from the Kansai region? The only exception is drummer yukihiro, who is from Chiba, while hyde is from Wakayama and both ken and tetsuya are from Shiga.
Given the vibe of their music, it feels a bit unexpected, doesn’t it? They’ve been a band at the forefront since their formation in 1991.
TwilightHakubi

A three-piece rock band that commands an overwhelming presence not only in their hometown of Kyoto but across live house scenes nationwide.
Despite guitarist-vocalist Katagiri’s crystal-clear voice, the trio captivates with lyrics that lay bare her unvarnished emotions, pressing in with palpable intensity.
They’re a standout newcomer for their richly expressive sound work that seems to faithfully portray her inner world.
