Bands, artists, and singers from the Kanto region

This is a playlist of artists from the Kanto region.

I don’t think artists from the Greater Tokyo area are usually conscious of their birthplace, but there are cases where you assume a band is from Kansai, only to find out the members are actually from Kanto and came to Kansai for university.

There were also some surprising cases where people turned out to be from unexpected places.

Strawberry Song / Quena Player RenRen

Ren is a quena player, born in 1980 and originally from Ashikaga City, Tochigi Prefecture.

After graduating from Tochigi Prefectural Ashikaga High School, he became captivated by the quena while studying at the University of Tsukuba.

After completing graduate school, he traveled in South America and began performing himself.

He worked as a junior high school teacher in Ashikaga City from 2005 to 2008, but became a professional quena player in 2008.

Face forward!musubizumu

Misa Kimura, who serves as the leader of the idol group Musubizm, is from Gunma Prefecture.

In addition to her idol activities, Misa Kimura also works as a magazine model and MC, and she has been a selection committee member for Miss iD 2015.

It’s an upbeat song with a bright tone that gives you energy.

KoiShio Ringo, who is active as a member of the idol group Band ja Naimon!, is from Gunma Prefecture.

Their songs have a bright, pop feel, with a very fast singing pace that gives the impression of rushing forward.

It’s the perfect music to play when everyone wants to get hyped up together.

Curry and riceEndō Kenji

“Kenji Endo” is a singer-songwriter from Hitachinaka City, Ibaraki Prefecture, who made his record debut in 1969.

He had been active as an amateur folk singer since the late 1960s.

“Curry Rice” is a single released in 1972 that sold 100,000 copies and became one of Kenji Endo’s signature songs.

PivotSHAKALABBITS

Drummer MAH and guitarist TAKE-C are from Tochigi Prefecture.

They were a rock band that enjoyed huge support from band kids at the time for their Harajuku-style rock with ska elements.

They were also closely connected with 175R and other “youth punk” bands, and even released CDs featuring collaborations.

Katsuyuki Tsukui, who was active as the duo group class, is from Kiryu City in Gunma Prefecture.

It’s a very refreshing song, perfect for the summer seaside.

In 2008, the answer song “Fuyu no Hi no 2009” was released.

Spring Gardenkashibuchi tetsurou

Born in Tochigi Prefecture.

A musician born in 1950.

While active as the drummer for Moonriders, he released a collaborative album with Akiko Yano in 1983; this song is included on that album, “Hotel Lila.” It sings of a serene scene of a picnic.
