This is a playlist of artists from the Kanto region.
I don’t think artists from the Greater Tokyo area are usually conscious of their birthplace, but there are cases where you assume a band is from Kansai, only to find out the members are actually from Kanto and came to Kansai for university.
There were also some surprising cases where people turned out to be from unexpected places.

Bands, artists, and singers from the Kanto region (21–30)
MEMoRIES (feat. MoNa)Mr. Low-D

Hip-hop artist Mr.
Low-D, who began his career in Mito City, Ibaraki Prefecture, is known for his distinctive style heavily influenced by West Coast hip-hop and lowrider culture.
He started performing in 1998, worked through the groups 5X-LARGE and BWH, and made his solo debut in 2007 with the mini-album “Sanctuary.” In 2011, he released the album “800DAYZ,” drawing a total audience of over 6,000 across a 30-date national tour.
He has also made his mark in sports by creating entrance theme songs for pitcher Norihito Kaneba of the Yomiuri Giants and outfielder Hitoshi Tamura of the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks.
Often dubbed the “King of Ringtone Downloads,” his music offers a perfect world for car enthusiasts and fans of lowrider culture.

Ayumu Matsuki, a singer-songwriter from Toride City in Ibaraki Prefecture, has pursued a unique musical path since his debut in 2005, centered on rock and alternative.
While still in university, he made his debut with the mini-album “Home Recordings” after submitting a song to Quruli’s radio program.
In 2010, he drew attention for innovative initiatives such as releasing the 28-track double album “100 Million Years Record” as a digital-only release and establishing his own donation system, M.A.F.
A true multi-instrumentalist who plays guitar, piano, bass, and drums by himself, he continues to operate outside the traditional music industry framework by leveraging the internet to share his music.

plumMito Gotōchi Aidoru (Kari)

Formed in 2012, Mito Local Idol (provisional) was a female local idol group based in Mito City, Ibaraki Prefecture.
While rooted in J-pop, they produced songs rich in local flavor and operated under a unique concept as a “name-changing” idol group.
In 2012, 10 members were selected from 87 applicants, and their signature song “MITOrete! Ibarakiss Darling” was featured in KONAMI’s music games jubeat saucer fulfill and DanceDanceRevolution.
In 2013, they won the Grand Prix at the Local Idol No.1 Contest U.M.U AWARD 2013 and were appointed “Mito’s Charm Promotion Directors” by Mito City, drawing attention for their community-focused activities.
They’re a group worth following for those who want to promote the charms of Ibaraki nationwide or who are interested in the potential of regional idol groups.
A rainbow over the rainIsoyama Jun

Jun Isoyama is a singer-songwriter from Mito City, Ibaraki Prefecture, and a community-focused artist who captivates many fans with his warm voice and heartfelt lyrics.
Centered on pop while incorporating elements of folk and rock, he presents a wide-ranging style.
His songs, which carefully depict everyday scenes and human emotions, are supported by listeners across generations.
He has signature tracks that express gratitude in a straightforward way, has won awards in local music contests, and his music has been adopted as theme songs for local schools and companies.

JUST DANCE!Shimekake Tatsuya

Born on June 23, 1995, and hailing from Koga City, Ibaraki Prefecture, Ryuya Shimekake is a member of the seven-member idol group Travis Japan, formed under the guidance of Travis Payne, the renowned choreographer for Michael Jackson.
He joined Johnny & Associates in 2009, has been part of the group since its formation in 2012, and made a global major debut in October 2022.
Their debut single, “JUST DANCE!,” achieved the remarkable feat of debuting at No.
5 on Billboard’s Global Excl.

Within the group, Shimekake also works as a choreographer.

Memories, My FriendŌmori Maho

Maho Omori, a native of Hokota City in Ibaraki Prefecture, began her idol career after being selected fifth by Team B at the 2018 AKB48 Group Draft.
Beloved by many fans for her bright personality and hard-working attitude, she has been chosen for the lineup in seven singles so far and participated as an All Stars member on “Color-Contacts Wink,” released in March 2024.
She also has the skills to back it up, having reached the finals of a singing contest, and she continues to be active in various fields, including the release of her first photo book in December 2024.
She’s perfect for anyone who wants to watch an idol’s growth journey up close.

Born in 2011 and hailing from Ibaraki Prefecture, Nana Sakurai is an idol belonging to the Pink Class of the large girls’ group Shibu3 project.
Formed in 2016, Shibu3 project takes its name from Shibuya 3-chome.
Sakurai joined the group in March 2023, quickly drawing attention from fans with her fresh charm and diverse talents, including ballet, contemporary dance, and violin performance.
The group has been steadily growing, achieving 48th on the Oricon charts in 2021 with their album “#SHIBUYA,” and appearing at major events such as TOKYO IDOL FESTIVAL.
