Snacks for seniors! Recommended chilled sweets for August (1–10)
Mikan Milk Agar JellyNEW!

This dessert features a silky texture with chunks of mandarin oranges embedded in milk agar.
It’s easy for anyone to make since you simply pour the ingredients into a mold and chill.
Line a container with canned mandarin oranges, then pour in milk-mixed agar to fill the gaps, and chill until set.
To achieve a more beautiful appearance, the balance between the oranges and the agar is important, so consider how much of each to use as you go.
You can also adjust it to your taste—for example, packing in lots of oranges if you prefer.
Shiratama Fruit PunchNEW!

This is a simple yet visually beautiful dessert made by mixing small-cut fruit with shiratama (glutinous rice dumplings).
Canned fruit is recommended; think about which varieties to use while considering a good color balance.
The way you mix, boil, and size the shiratama is also important, so pay close attention when preparing them.
Consider what fruit size is easiest to eat and match the shiratama size accordingly.
Finally, mix the cut fruit with the shiratama and add syrup to finish.
Mikan Calpis Jelly

With mandarin Calpis jelly, you can enjoy a refreshing taste.
The process has three main steps.
First, make the Calpis jelly using Calpis and gelatin.
Next, make the mandarin jelly using canned mandarins and gelatin.
Then layer both in the same glass, and it’s done.
This time I introduced a recipe using mandarins, but it should turn out delicious with other fruits as well.
If you take the flavor of Calpis as a guide, you can choose fruits that pair well with it.
Fluffy Marshmallow Mousse

So fluffy and snowy white you’ll want to touch it! How about a mousse idea made with marshmallows? Put milk and marshmallows in a pot and heat until it becomes a smooth liquid.
Once the marshmallows are fully melted, pour into dishes and chill in the refrigerator until set, and it’s ready.
Top with a lemon slice and drizzle with lemon juice for extra refreshment! It’s very soft in texture, so even those with reduced chewing strength can enjoy it.
It’s also great topped with strawberries, kiwi, and more!
warabi mochi

Warabi-mochi is usually finished with warabi starch, but here’s a method that uses potato starch instead.
Mix potato starch and sugar, add water, and microwave it.
After heating for about 30 seconds, take it out, stir with a spoon, and microwave again.
Repeat this process and—like magic—you’ll end up with delightfully chewy warabi-mochi.
Enjoy with kuromitsu (black sugar syrup) or kinako (roasted soybean flour) if you like.
It’s great because you don’t need a stovetop.
This translucent Japanese sweet is a perfect fit for summer!
transparent cake

Here’s an eye-catching idea for a transparent cake.
As the name suggests, this cake lets you see right through the inside.
The “sponge” is actually made with gelatin, so you can easily make it by simply mixing and chilling.
It looks beautiful topped with fruit, and you can also embed fruit inside.
There are many ways to decorate it, so try coming up with your own original design.
Note that gelatin takes time to set in the fridge, so keep that in mind.
Mango smoothie

How about a mango smoothie that lets you enjoy a tropical vibe? The basic method is quite simple: just blend frozen mango, yogurt, and honey.
It’s refreshingly cold—perfect for summer—and it’s a nice beauty booster, too.
Sharing ideas tailored to each person’s preferences can also help spark interest.
By the way, you can easily buy frozen mango at supermarkets and convenience stores, so it’s great for when you want to make one on short notice.
