Jealousy on the lipsBOØWY

This song, with its strikingly bouncy bass riff, features lyrics like a page from the folly of youth, yearning for a fleeting life, evoking the blue-tinted adolescence everyone goes through.

The detailed descriptions are so vivid it feels as if they’re showing us cherished photographs they keep tucked away in their hearts.

ELITEBOØWY

Included as the fourth track on the debut album “MORAL,” released on March 21, 1982, this is an impactful song that grabs you right away with its guitar riff and opening lyrics.

I’m sure any guitar kid would want to copy those phrases!

LIAR GIRLBOØWY

Starting with a sound reminiscent of a synth organ, this song is very popular, not least because it’s the first track on the final album.

Even when singing about a relationship between a man and a woman, its expressions are remarkably rich—sometimes direct, sometimes metaphorical—so it never becomes dull.

The chorus in the hook is also memorable.

This song, which became their final single, reminds me of the helpless atmosphere of that time as they headed toward breaking up, and it still makes my heart ache.

The fleeting music video, where all sorts of people appear one after another only to vanish, links beautifully with the track and is etched into my memory.

DON’T ASK MEBOØWY

DON'T ASK MEBOØWY

A song included on BOØWY’s fifth album “BEAT EMOTION” from 1986.

When it moves from the A section to the B section, the rhythm changes, which is really interesting.

This distinctive rhythm is likely to become addictive.

The rhythm is a bit hard to groove to, and it wasn’t performed live very often.

The English lyrics at the end are exactly the kind of touch you’d expect from Himurock.

ROUGE OF GRAYBOØWY

It was included on their fourth album, JUST A HERO, and was apparently also a candidate for the album’s title.

The electronic drum sound in the intro is striking, and the song has a sideways-groove, disco-tinged dance number feel.

IMAGE DOWNBOØWY

Their signature song from their debut album MORAL, one they’re expected to play at every live show.

In live footage, be sure to also watch bassist Matsui, who—contrasting with Hotei’s flamboyant stage presence—delivers relentless, demon-like down-picking without moving a muscle.
