Origami ideas boys will want to make!

We’ll introduce origami ideas and instructions that boys will love, including playable origami toys, favorite creatures, and items perfect for pretend play.

Many of these can be made with just one sheet of origami paper, so even young children can give them a try.

Once you master the folds, try making them in different colors and patterns, or draw eyes and designs with a pen to add your own originality.

If you draw a picture on construction paper and paste your origami on top, it will add a three-dimensional feel and make a wonderful piece of art.

This is an origami stag beetle you can make with simple steps and no tools.

All you need is one sheet of black origami paper.

First, fold it in half twice to make a cross-shaped crease.

Fold both sides inward toward the creases, then fold one side inward once more.

Open the folded section once to form the horns.

Flip it over, fold the other side inward to make the body.

Finally, neaten the edges, and you’re done.

Stag beetles are very popular among insects, so give it a try!

Some children may envy the smartphones that adults use every day.

In that case, why not make one out of origami so they can feel like they’re using a smartphone at preschool? Fold a sheet of origami paper in half and open it, then fold about 5 mm of each of the opposing edges, and fold them in toward the center crease.

Continue folding while making small cuts so it takes on a long, smartphone-like shape, then attach a screen piece made from another sheet of origami to finish.

Write the time on the screen or draw your favorite pictures and enjoy making your very own smartphone!

Let’s make a fun toy that moves with a chomping motion, completed using just a single sheet of origami, and offers many ways to play.

Once you learn how to fold it, you can enjoy playing with friends and family anytime, anywhere with just one piece of origami—so be sure to master it.

Let’s make an origami samurai helmet (kabuto) and decorate it by pasting it onto construction paper! Fold a square sheet of origami paper in half into a triangle, then fold it in half again to make a crease.

Fold the two outer corners up to meet the top point.

Fold the corners gathered at the top back down toward the bottom point.

Flip it over, then open out the top section diagonally to the left and right.

Fold the top layer of the lower triangle upward to overlap the upper triangle, and tuck the bottom layer into the pocket.

Your origami kabuto is complete! It’s a great seasonal craft to make at home or in the classroom.

Let’s make a cool piece of origami that you can slip onto your fingers to look like claws! Fold the paper up and down to make creases, then fold it toward the center.

Next, open one side of the paper and fold the other side toward the crease.

Then fold the opened part back down, tuck the triangular flap into the pocket, and you’re done.

Slip your finger into the open triangular part to create long-looking nails.

When playing, be careful not to poke anyone with the tips.
