Chatmonchy’s iconic and popular songs

I’ve put together a collection of songs by Chatmonchy, one of Japan’s leading all-girl bands.

For me, born in 1993, when I think of girl bands, it’s definitely Chatmonchy.

They had been active as a trio since their formation, but in 2011, drummer Kumikon (Kumiko Takahashi) left the band.

Since then, the group has continued with vocalist/guitarist Ecchan (Eriko Hashimoto) and bassist Akko-chan (Akiko Fukuoka), performing with support members.

By the way, after leaving, Kumikon has been working as a writer, which she had been doing for some time, creating works that use paintings and poetry to turn entire spaces into art—this is her guiding concept.

She also wrote lyrics for many of their songs, so be sure to check them out in this playlist.

It’s a slightly melancholic song depicting someone who can’t get over a broken heart.

It skillfully captures one’s emotions and the passage of time, and the simple instrumentation accentuates the sadness of the enthralling lyrics.

Along with the title “Spring, Summer, Autumn,” the song’s superb lyrical expression leaves a strong impression.

Chatmonchy, the band that sadly disbanded in 2018.

This song, Sakura Zensen, is included on Chatmonchy’s 2011 album YOU MORE.

Everyone has those feelings that swirl around inside, not even worth bringing up to others, right? This song turns those kinds of emotions—ones that could be taken that way—into lyrics and music.

It captures a contrast between the glamour and preciousness of cherry blossoms and the opposing feelings within, along with a wish to blur those feelings away during cherry-blossom viewing.

It’s a track that conveys all of that.

How about Chatmonchy’s “Kinga Shinnen,” a song you can sing with the feeling of “Happy New Year”? It’s included on their 2011 album “YOU MORE,” and as you listen, you’ll be wrapped in gently heartwarming lyrics and melodies.

A warm track that sings of enduring love.

If you sing it with gratitude for all the care you’ve received so far, along with a “let’s keep getting along from here on out,” I’m sure you’ll be able to spend a peaceful year.

It’s a heartbreak song that tightens your chest with the longing to go back to when we were together.

Used as an ending theme for the anime BLEACH, it became one of Chatmonchy’s signature tracks.

The song portrays a woman who can’t get anything done after a breakup, with lyrics many women can relate to.

Lost SheepChatto Monchī

A coupling track included on Chatmonchy’s breakthrough release Shangri-La, from the rock band that sadly disbanded in 2018.

It’s also Chatmonchy’s first Christmas song.

Frustration builds toward a not-so-attentive lover, yet a single offhand remark can make your heart sway.

The song portrays that tug-of-war of love, making it relatable for anyone who isn’t getting along with their partner or feels dissatisfied.

Let Chatmonchy’s signature hefty rock ’n’ roll sound, groove, and vocals carry away the haze and set you free!

When a flying fish leaps out of the sea, a whole variety of worlds open up.

It goes on many journeys and then returns to the ocean.

Thinking of myself as going out into society, being tossed about within it, and gaining all kinds of experiences, I realized this song makes me see that I’m a flying fish too.

Feeling that I’m a flying fish gives me a whimsical, fairytale-like, happy feeling.

This song sung by Chat Monkey captures the fun vibe and joyful feelings of a birthday, and it seems like listening to it would put you in a cheerful mood.

Since I want the birthday party to be lively and bright, playing this song at such a time could really help amp up the celebration, don’t you think?
