Chatmonchy’s iconic and popular songs

I’ve put together a collection of songs by Chatmonchy, one of Japan’s leading all-girl bands.

For me, born in 1993, when I think of girl bands, it’s definitely Chatmonchy.

They had been active as a trio since their formation, but in 2011, drummer Kumikon (Kumiko Takahashi) left the band.

Since then, the group has continued with vocalist/guitarist Ecchan (Eriko Hashimoto) and bassist Akko-chan (Akiko Fukuoka), performing with support members.

By the way, after leaving, Kumikon has been working as a writer, which she had been doing for some time, creating works that use paintings and poetry to turn entire spaces into art—this is her guiding concept.

She also wrote lyrics for many of their songs, so be sure to check them out in this playlist.

I felt like this song makes me kind of sentimental.

When I listen to it, it brings back memories of my fun teenage years.

Each lyric pops into my head and forms a story.

When I want to reminisce about the past, I think I’ll listen to this song to recall those memories.

It just makes you cry! It moves you! It’s a song that makes you want to go see your parents.

If I’d listened to this back in my school days or when I was younger, I might have cherished my parents more—that’s how powerful it is.

The lyrics paint such vivid scenes that if you listen with your eyes closed, it’s exceptional!

I feel like parts of this song might really hit home for women listeners.

The lyrics reveal some unflattering sides of women that are still relatable, and there are lines that feel like they’re about me, too.

The phrase that made me go “so true” was “making a big deal out of the occasional home-cooked meal.” It’s such a common scene, and singing about it with that sharp, it’s-not-someone-else quality is something only the two of Chatmonchy could pull off.

This song was released during a period when they were putting out one single after another, even as voices of concern grew about whether they could continue with just two members.

The band sound is so compelling that it’s hard to believe it’s only the two of them.

With this track, they actually showcased their fundamental strength as a band and reminded the world of their roots.

Cute!! This song can be summed up in that one word.

A phrase like “shanari shanari” is something that only Chatmonchy could pull off and sing.

It beautifully captures a girl’s delicate feelings of love, and it’s the kind of song that makes me think, ‘I wish I’d had a romance like this!’

The song written as the theme for the anime Thermae Romae is packed with the charm of Chatmonchy.

The lyrics, which sing about the joy of soaking in a bath to seek a brief escape from a tiring daily life, really resonate.

Released in February 2012, the track reached No.

13 on the Oricon chart.

It’s also included on the album Henshin and is beloved by many fans.

It’s perfect for those moments when you want to take a breather during a busy day.

Listen while you relax in the bath, and it’s sure to soothe both your mind and body.

I felt it was a song I’d want to listen to when I don’t know what to do anymore and everything feels unbearable.

It was a gentle song that seems to ask, “Wouldn’t it be nice if things could be like this?” The melody is easy to listen to and suited my downcast mood very well.
