Magic
How about performing some magic tricks that will make the kids gasp with surprise at a birthday party and the like? Magic is a classic at events, and there are so many kinds that children are sure to love it.
If you’re performing at a kindergarten or daycare, choose tricks with big, easy-to-see props and simple effects—using things like newspapers, envelopes, or colored construction paper—so they’re clear even from a bit of a distance.
Also, since you may get requests like “Do it again!”, prepare tricks that can be repeated.
Magic Theater
How about making a magic theater out of colored construction paper and putting on a little show? You use a house-shaped piece of colored paper, folding it back and forth, flipping it over and back as you tell the story—and, like magic, different characters appear one after another.
Be careful not to fold it the wrong way or open the wrong spot.
Once you’ve made this magic theater, all you have to do is tell the story while showing it, so give it a try.
It also gets more exciting if you change up the characters partway through.

Puppet show with mechanisms
This is a pop-up paper puppet show perfect for birthday parties.
It has interactive elements where various ingredients appear as you make a birthday cake.
With each page you turn, introduce the ingredient that appears, add it to the bowl, mix, bring out the oven to bake, and finally reveal a big cake.
At the birthday party, let’s all sing Happy Birthday at the end! You can also create seasonal versions to match other events, like Halloween or Christmas, and give them a try even outside of birthday parties.
Darkness Theater
This “Darkness Theater” invites you to go out into the dark and give it a try.
Just the idea of going into darkness somehow makes your heart race with excitement, doesn’t it? Some children might feel a little scared, but it’s so cute and fun that the fear will surely fade, and by the end they’ll be smiling.
Put a sketch inside a clear zip bag and trace over it to draw your illustration, then color it in with permanent markers.
Next, place black construction paper inside—now it’s like total darkness; you can’t see anything at all.
But if you slide the beam of a flashlight—made from light yellow construction paper—between the bag and the black paper, only that area lights up and the picture appears.
That’s the trick.

The fluffy, cute balloon theater is so much fun! We’re introducing the idea for “What’s Inside the Present…”.
In the video it’s performed at a birthday event, but it’s also a fantastic idea for a school entrance ceremony! You’ll get to see children’s sparkling, adorable expressions as they wonder what’s inside the present box.
When you open the lid and the balloon starts to inflate bit by bit, the kids are guaranteed to get excited! Take this opportunity to give it a try.
Fingerplay song from a gachapon (capsule toy)
Gachapon machines that kids love.
This idea recreates a gachapon on a whiteboard, with hand-play activities written inside.
You can easily make it using small whiteboards from a 100-yen shop.
For the gachapon capsules, prepare pieces that have a capsule design on the front and the hand-play activity written on the back, and insert double-sided magnets in between.
Rather than just doing hand-play songs as usual, the act of “doing gachapon” and the excitement of wondering what will come out should make it extra fun and engaging.
