D.I.J’s PistolBLANKEY JET CITY

BLANKEY JET CITY’s “D.I.J no Pistol” features an impressive intro that uses hi-hat and snare effectively, reminiscent of Led Zeppelin’s classic “Rock and Roll.” The straight-ahead beat crafted by drummer Tatsuya Nakamura is irresistible in this song! Though it has a punk rock feel, his drumming weaves in ride cymbal at key moments, keeping the phrases from becoming monotonous.
The snare cuts through beautifully as well, making it an incredibly pleasant listen.
I’m in a ComaDEAD END

Dead End is a legendary band that exerted an enormous influence on Japanese heavy metal and, by extension, visual kei bands.
The sound crafted by players with exceptional technique and taste incorporates a wide range of styles—including new wave—setting it apart from straightforward heavy metal or hard rock.
The worldview of MORRIE, a charismatic figure whose philosophically minded lyrics stem from literary sophistication and whose overwhelming vocal prowess captivates, is likewise in a class of its own.
This time, from among their many masterpieces, we’re highlighting “I’m in a Coma,” the B-side to their second single and a long-standing fan favorite.
While the overall foundation is a simple 8-beat, the drummer Masafumi Minato—known as “MINATO,” a renowned player—creates a groove distinct from a straight-ahead beat through the intro fills and his delicate use of cymbals.
After leaving the band, he contributed to numerous tracks as a session drummer, so be sure to trace the great legacy he left behind.
END OF SORROWLUNA SEA

Shinya is a popular drummer known for his overwhelming drumming and bright, talkative personality.
He is the drummer for the rock band LUNA SEA and has also performed as a support drummer for Kyosuke Himuro and Koji Kikkawa.
At LUNA SEA concerts, he has even carried out large-scale performances where the drum kit is fixed to a base and rotates in midair.
On LUNA SEA’s seventh single, “END OF SORROW,” released in 1996, his drumming—with its wide dynamic range from very soft to very loud—underpins the song’s sound.
Haikara Hakuchihappiiendo

When it comes to the drummer of Happy End, pioneers of Japanese rock, it’s Takashi Matsumoto—who also sent countless classic songs into the world as a lyricist.
One track where Matsumoto’s drumming truly shines is their first single, Haikara Hakuchi, released in 1971.
The driving, high-velocity beat interlocks with Haruomi Hosono’s soulful bassline to create a groovy feel.
It’s also rare for a Japanese song in that era to feature a drum solo, and the intense playing on snare and floor tom makes it a must-hear for any drummer!
THANXWANIMA

If you want to hear melodic hardcore drumming, this is the band! WANIMA, a band from Kumamoto Prefecture, included their track “THANX” on the 2015 album Are You Coming?.
It’s an emotional piece that powerfully sings out a message to someone precious who’s no longer here.
Delivering drum work that hits your ears and brain with a bang is FUJI.
This is exactly what you’d call a razor-sharp performance—his energetic sound is the band’s hallmark!
Deep Insidefox capture plan

A groove-packed new track from fox capture plan, embodying modern jazz rock.
Its unique sound—melding the delicacy of a piano trio with the dynamism of rock—grabs listeners and won’t let go.
Tsukasa Inoue’s drumming underpins the piece with performances that are both subtle and powerful, effortlessly crossing the boundary between jazz and rock.
Released in July 2024, this work is a song nurtured together with audiences throughout a nationwide tour.
Brimming with the immediacy of a live show, it holds the power to awaken the passion sleeping in your heart.
It’s a must-listen for those seeking stimulation in their daily lives or hoping to face themselves through music.
