[Day Service] Spring Take-Home Crafts: Ideas to Warmly Brighten Your Room

For crafts in day service programs, we recommend incorporating motifs that can only be enjoyed in that season.

Take-home projects using spring-specific motifs—such as cherry blossoms, tulips, carp streamers, and hina dolls—not only offer the fun of working with your hands, but also let people display the finished pieces at home to savor the season.

Even those who find it difficult to go out can feel the arrival of spring indoors.

We’ve included a wide range of items, from practical pieces like wall hangings, bouquets, and message stands to purely decorative creations.

Please make use of these ideas for spring-themed crafts.

Stained glass is used in churches and public facilities, too.

The sunlight filtering through stained glass creates a lovely atmosphere indoors, doesn’t it? Let’s make a carp streamer that captures that stained-glass look.

Draw lines on a clear file folder with a black permanent marker, then color it in with various permanent markers.

After coloring, roll it up, secure it with clear tape, and form the tail fin.

Punch a hole near the head, thread a stick through, and it’s done.

You can also decorate the top of the stick with a paper samurai helmet or a streamer.

This stained-glass-style carp streamer—something you don’t see very often—seems like an activity older adults would enjoy as well.

Onions and asparagus

#12 Torn-paper collage of onions and asparagus
Onions and asparagus

Onions and asparagus with their distinctive looks make perfect motifs for torn-paper collage! The combination of brownish onions and green asparagus creates a natural, stylish vibe.

To depict the wrinkled skin of an onion, the trick is to apply plenty of glue and stick the paper down while scrunching it to form wrinkles.

And for asparagus, adding purplish tones—not just green—will elevate the result.

Using newspaper or flyers will lend even more character to your piece, so give it a try!

Tulip

#26 Feeling spring excitement? “Bloomed, bloomed!” — Tulip Newspaper Collage #newspaperart #tulip #新聞ちぎり絵
Tulip

Tulips are a staple in schoolyard flowerbeds and a spring flower that pairs nicely with windmills.

Their distinctive petals and leaves make them a striking motif even in torn-paper collage.

For the tulip blossom, imagine tearing pieces one by one and layering them in a circle to shape the flower.

Using advertisements is recommended—you can discover unexpected color combinations! The stem is straight, so it should be easy to make.

The leaves are distinctive and will make it even lovelier if you include them, but it’s fine to leave them out if it feels difficult.

Enjoy creating tulips in your favorite colors!

Tulip arrangement

Tulip arrangement

Fresh flowers are lovely, but handmade ones have their own charm and are wonderful too.

This time, we’re making a parallel arrangement of tulips using origami.

Please prepare origami paper, bamboo skewers, scissors, tape or glue, and wood glue while watching the video.

Once you get the hang of it, you can make plenty! They’re perfect for interior decor, and by crafting tulips in various colors, you can enjoy a touch of spring indoors.

They’re also great for recreational activities.

Have fun making them!

Tulip wreath

[Origami] How to Make a Tulip Wreath
Tulip wreath

Tulips are one of the flowers that color the spring season, and their rich variety of hues conveys the excitement of spring.

This is a wreath that captures that springtime joy by arranging colorful tulips on a circular base.

It’s recommended to make the wreath base in green to evoke leaves; create triangular pieces and insert adjacent pieces into the gaps to form a circle.

Then just add tulips and other decorations to the base to finish.

To make the tulips really stand out, it’s important to use folds to give them a three-dimensional look.

Nemophila

Nemophila

Nemophila, with its gentle blue blossoms and petite size, softly colors the spring season.

This project recreates nemophila flowers with origami, combining pieces to bring out their delicate charm.

Fold the paper finely toward the center to form five petals, then stack and assemble them to create the nemophila bloom.

Adding small touches—like staggering the layers during assembly or slightly bending the front edges—helps create a three-dimensional look.

Lining up flowers in different shades to make a gradient also seems like a lovely idea.

Scrap-fabric brooch

Great for small gifts★ Make use of fabric scraps—don’t throw them away, no matter how tiny!
Scrap-fabric brooch

A brooch is a lovely item that adds a stylish accent when pinned to your everyday outfit.

It’s fun to make your own fashion accessories, isn’t it? This time, we’ll show you how to make a brooch without using any needles.

We’ll also use leftover fabric scraps as materials.

If you have odd bits of fabric left over from a craft session, give this a try.

Cut a craft foam ball in half and attach small, square-cut fabric scraps to it.

You’ll fold the fabric squares and assemble them in a style similar to tsumami-zaiku (pinching craft).

Because there are many steps that require concentration and fine motor skills, it can be effective as brain training for older adults.

Adding pearls or beads will make the finish even more beautiful.
