Earthquakes are one of the natural disasters that are unavoidable as long as you live in Japan.

Many major earthquakes have struck so far, bringing much sorrow and hardship.

Yet each time, support has arrived not only from within Japan but from around the world.

Among these recovery efforts, there has been a great deal of support through music, with musicians across the globe releasing songs filled with hopes for disaster recovery.

Us, ten years from now10 for 10 TOHOKU

Marking the 10th anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake, “Us Ten Years Later” was created with many heartfelt sentiments.

The song was written and composed by Satoru Sakamoto, vocalist of the Sendai-born rock band JIGGER’S SON, and features voices joined by people connected to Miyagi Prefecture, including Koichi Yamadera and Junko Yagami.

It’s a piece meant to be shared worldwide as an anthem of support—carrying the feelings that must not be allowed to fade, from wounds that still haven’t healed after ten years to the changes that have come over that time.

Thirty Seconds to Mars is an American rock band formed in 1998.

Fire EX., a Taiwanese rock band drawing attention for cross-border exchanges—including a collaboration song with Takeshi Hosomi—has released a music video that also features scenes of their visit to the Tohoku region affected by the earthquake, where they performed for survivors.

The video became a hot topic in Taiwan as well.

Bridge Over TomorrowRemioromen

Remioromen, who produced numerous hit songs and went on hiatus in 2012.

Their 2006 album HORIZON includes this track, Bridge to Tomorrow.

Let’s Try Again !Team Amuse

A charity song to support recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake, initiated by Keisuke Kuwata of Southern All Stars, who belongs to the talent agency Amuse, and produced by gathering talents from the agency.

It’s a lavish support song featuring a star-studded lineup including Southern All Stars, Masaharu Fukuyama, Perfume, and Porno Graffitti.

A medley of their signature hits, it’s a track that lifts your spirits.
