Kurashiki City in Okayama Prefecture is known as the birthplace of domestically produced jeans in Japan. In the early Showa 40s (late 1960s), textile manufacturers in the Kojima area of Kurashiki produced Japan’s first domestically made jeans, and the city has since become one of the country’s leading denim hubs. Its high-quality denim fabrics and craftsmanship are recognized worldwide, and jeans from Kojima, Kurashiki have many fans both in Japan and abroad.
