Sword Hunt

The sword hunt was a policy created with objectives such as preventing uprisings by peasants and maintaining public order. The Taikō land survey was a nationwide cadastral survey carried out by Toyotomi Hideyoshi from 1582 (Tenshō 10) to 1595 (Bunroku 4). The Buke Shohatto was a policy established by the Tokugawa shoguns in the Edo period that prohibited social classes other than the warrior class from possessing weapons.

Nagoya Castle

The ruins of Nagoya Castle are located in Karatsu City, Saga Prefecture. The castle was built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi as a base for the invasions of Korea and has been designated a Special Historic Site by the national government.

The Three Unifiers ended the chaos of the Sengoku period and established the peaceful era known as the Edo period.

The Battle of Tennōzan was a conflict fought on June 13, 1582 (June 2, Tenshō 10) at Yamazaki (present-day Ōyamazaki, Kyoto Prefecture). It pitted Hashiba Hideyoshi (later Toyotomi Hideyoshi), a retainer of Oda Nobunaga, against Akechi Mitsuhide.

Toyotomi Hideyoshi resembled a monkey in appearance, but Oda Nobunaga went even further, calling him by the harsher nickname “bald rat.”

Princess Asahi

Lady Asahi is said to have been Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s half sister by a different father, though some point out she may have been his sister by the same father. She was Tokugawa Ieyasu’s principal wife.
