Hokkaido

Hidaka Cosmic FestivalSaturday, 8/29, Hokkaido

This is a one-day music festival that grew out of gatherings where the poet Okachimachi Kaito sang and read poetry with friends in Hidaka at summer’s end. The venue is the Hangandate Forest Park Campground, which spreads across a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, making use of a stage that remains at a site connected to the legend of Yoshitsune and the Ainu hero Shakushain. Welcoming artists such as Eito, Sonoko Inoue, and Shohei Yamaki, the event offers a taste of Hidaka’s charms with food, music, a campfire, and soap bubbles. Scheduled for August 2026.

Aomori Prefecture

SANNOHE SOUNDS SHOWERMonday, 5/4, Aomori Prefecture

SANNOHE SOUNDS SHOWER is a music event held every year on May 4 at the event stage and plaza of Sannohe Castle Ruins Shiroyama Park, a nationally designated historic site in Sannohe, Aomori Prefecture. Launched in 2017 and organized by the local group “Sakura to Suteki na Nakamatachi,” it features around 14 performing bands, along with a green market of handmade artisans, kitchen cars (food trucks), and local shops, offering music, food, and shopping for the whole family. There are also playground facilities around the plaza, making it a comfortable place for visitors with children.

Abe FestSat, 6/27 Aomori Prefecture

This is a comedy-and-music entertainment show held to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Aomori Asahi Broadcasting’s launch. Koji Abe, who has served as the face of Aomori’s Saturday mornings since 2013 as the MC of the program “Happy,” delivers a stage filled with deep affection and gratitude for Aomori’s charms and the warmth of its people, which he has come to know through the show over many years. In 2024, he invested his own funds to purchase a deteriorating hot spring facility and lovingly reopened it as “Happy Hyakuzawa Onsen.” This man full of love now proudly brings an entertainment show to the people of Aomori, scheduled for June 2026.

Kokubunji is a city of music where Kiyoshiro Imawano spent his childhood, Haruki Murakami once ran a jazz café, and the rock café Honyarado still shines today. KokuFes is a community-driven festival launched in 2020 by a citizen executive committee to showcase local appeal, creating two days when music rises from every corner of the town. A diverse lineup appears—from professional musicians to children and seniors—and in 2026 it will be held at 39 venues across the city under the banner “E environment, E music!”

Lifelong Learning Festival: Kamanofuchi Fresh Greenery FestivalSat 5/9–Sun 5/10, Tokyo

This is a community-focused event hosted by the Ome City Board of Education as part of the Lifelong Learning Festival, where various local circles active in the city showcase the results of their regular practice. The venues span Kamanofuchi Park along the Tama River, the Former Miyazaki Residence within the park, and the S&D Tamagu Center, a cultural exchange hub. A shuttle bus connects the lush Tama nature in fresh greenery with key spots around town. A diverse array of stages—including singing, dancing, and instrumental performances—will be featured, and the event will be held in May 2026.
