[For 4-year-olds] Enjoy February! A Collection of Craft Ideas

February is still chilly, but it’s full of fun events like Setsubun and Valentine’s Day! For 4-year-olds, this is a great time to enjoy fine-motor activities like wrapping yarn and weaving paper.

If you incorporate seasonally themed ideas—such as snowflake and heart ornaments or ogre-themed bean holders for Setsubun—the children’s eyes are sure to sparkle with excitement.

Here, we’ve gathered craft ideas perfect for 4-year-olds in February.

Kids can also experience the joy of displaying their finished pieces or giving them as gifts.

We hope you find these ideas helpful! Note: In this article, we use the term “production” (制作) to refer to children’s creations as finished works of art.

Heart-shaped woven basket

[Valentine Craft] February Valentine Heart Woven Basket [Easy Craft] Valentine work
Heart-shaped woven basket

Let’s make a heart-shaped basket using soft, textured reversible crepe paper.

It’s a fun idea that lets you experience a bit of weaving! First, cut the parts from the reversible crepe paper: two pieces measuring 24 cm × 9 cm for the basket, one piece measuring 24 cm × 2 cm for the handle, and one piece measuring 24 cm × 1 cm for the decorative ribbon.

Fold each 24 cm × 9 cm piece in half so the two sides show different colors, then make cuts from the fold at widths of 3 cm and 1 cm, respectively.

Leave the top 3 cm uncut.

Weave the slits over and under alternately, layering them to create a lattice pattern and form the basket.

Once woven, round off the corners to shape it into a heart, attach the handle and ribbon, and you’re done.

Picture-book-style heart message card

Simple! Flip-open heart picture-book-style message card: 'Cute Letter Origami'—great for Valentine's Day (kids can make it themselves!) • Origami easy heart memo valentine
Picture-book-style heart message card

This is a heart-shaped message card made with origami.

It has multiple surfaces to write messages on, so you can flip through them and enjoy it like a picture book.

The method is very simple: fold the origami paper into a triangle three times, then cut it into a heart shape with scissors.

Open the paper and, following the crease lines, alternate mountain folds and valley folds to collapse it.

When folding, place the colored side of the origami facing up before folding into a triangle.

Also, when cutting the triangle into a heart shape, you’ll trim off two corners, but be careful not to cut the corner that is the center of the origami.

Snowman Marionette

[How to Make a Snowman] “Snowman Marionette” for childcare: winter craft, easy DIY, indoor play
Snowman Marionette

It’s a fun idea where the snowman dances when you move the disposable chopsticks.

Make the snowman by gluing two paper plates vertically to form the base and attaching facial parts.

For the snowman’s hands, use long, thin ribbons and add gloves made from construction paper.

Next, fix two chopsticks together at their centers by wrapping a rubber band, then open them into a cross.

Tie the snowman’s hands to two points on the chopstick cross with string.

Attach the ribbon “arms” to the sides of a vertically positioned tissue box.

Glue the paper-plate snowman to the front of the box, connect the center of the chopsticks to the box, and you’ve got a cheerful marionette!

A card where chocolate delivers the message

This is a message card where chocolate says “I Love You.” Cut the base construction paper into a cross shape, then fold it in half by matching the top and bottom edges.

Use this crease to fold the left and right sections of the cross inward.

Draw chocolates with faces on the inside of the base, and attach the “I Love You” message parts made from another sheet of construction paper onto the folded sections to finish.

If you make the message parts heart-shaped, it will give it a Valentine’s feel.

Chocolate decoration that rolls marbles

February makes you think of Valentine’s Day, doesn’t it? For crafts during this season, we recommend chocolate-themed decorations that you can enjoy like a game.

Prepare a container you don’t mind getting dirty, such as an empty tin or a box lid.

Place a heart-shaped piece of construction paper inside, then add marbles coated with paint.

Roll the marbles around to create patterns.

Use your wrists and upper body to move them so you don’t drop the marbles.

It’s a good idea to let your child choose the color of the paper and the paint.

Enjoy watching the patterns take shape and the process of completing the craft while moving your body.

A card for quietly confessing your feelings

How to make a Valentine’s Day card for a quiet confession ❤️ #valentinesday
A card for quietly confessing your feelings

Let me introduce a Valentine’s Day card with a hot air balloon motif.

In this idea, you create a 3D effect by cutting two pieces of construction paper into heart shapes to form the balloon’s envelope.

Attach the balloon to a backing sheet with clouds drawn on it, and draw the basket area with a pen.

By writing your message in small letters on the envelope part, you can make a quiet, subtle confession.

If you make the heart from dark brown construction paper and write on it with a black pen, it’ll be even harder to notice.

It’s a heart-pounding idea that makes you wonder, “Will they notice it?”

Cute card with beads

[Easy Valentine’s] I made a cute heart-shaped message card using that item from Seria 🥰 #shorts #childcare #parenting #childrearing #Valentine
Cute card with beads

When you shake it, the beads on the cover move—it’s a cute and stylish card.

You can make it if you have construction paper, a clear bag, beads, stickers, and other decoration items.

First, cut the card base out of construction paper and fold it in half.

Next, cut a heart-shaped window in the center of the front cover and attach a clear bag filled with beads to the back side.

Once the clear bag is securely fixed, glue the front and back covers together.

Finally, decorate the cover with your favorite items, and it’s done! If you use brown-toned construction paper for the base and wrap it with aluminum foil, you can even make it look like a chocolate bar.
