[For 4-year-olds] Enjoy February! A Collection of Craft Ideas

February is still chilly, but it’s full of fun events like Setsubun and Valentine’s Day! For 4-year-olds, this is a great time to enjoy fine-motor activities like wrapping yarn and weaving paper.

If you incorporate seasonally themed ideas—such as snowflake and heart ornaments or ogre-themed bean holders for Setsubun—the children’s eyes are sure to sparkle with excitement.

Here, we’ve gathered craft ideas perfect for 4-year-olds in February.

Kids can also experience the joy of displaying their finished pieces or giving them as gifts.

We hope you find these ideas helpful! Note: In this article, we use the term “production” (制作) to refer to children’s creations as finished works of art.

Mini love letter card

Happy Valentine 💌 Let's make a Valentine's card *•.❥ #shorts #origami
Mini love letter card

This is a Valentine’s card made by placing a message card inside tiny love letters folded from small origami paper.

Fold three mini love letters and attach them vertically to a backing sheet.

Then decorate the remaining space on the backing with heart or alphabet stickers, and it’s done.

Prepare origami paper in pink and chocolate colors.

It also looks great framed as a gift, so customizing the design is recommended.

In that case, try decorating the mini love letters with ribbons or adding character stickers for a cute touch.

Materials list, tips, and tricks ▼ (Follow @sayacky_be.child before you forget!) Materials • Paper straws (mine are from Seria) • Green paper with both sides green, like construction paper (mine is from Seria) • Newspaper (about a quarter page) • Aluminum tape (Seria, DAISO, etc.) • Small white round stickers (Seria, DAISO, etc.) Handy tools when making • Scissors • Clear tape • Pinking shears Tips • Some kids bravely throw beans, some cry and run away, and some try to protect others. You’ll see all kinds of little dramas during Setsubun bean-throwing. • I don’t want it to be just a scary event. I hope it becomes an experience that values each child’s individuality and helps them grow. • Aluminum tape is super handy—keep one on hand. When you want to create something shiny or metallic, kids absolutely love it! Nice to meet you! Let’s play like kids! I’m Sayacky, a preschool teacher and mom of two. Let’s beat the ogres with holly and sardines! Here’s a craft idea featuring holly and sardines—items that ogres dislike—to liven up Setsubun.

First, cut green wrapping sheets into the shape of holly leaves.

Using pinking shears makes the jagged edges easy.

Tape the leaves onto a paper straw with cellophane tape.

Next, crumple some newspaper into a ball and tape it to the paper straw.

Shape it like a sardine, then cut aluminum tape and wrap it around the sardine.

Finish by adding a round sticker for the sardine’s eye, and you’re done!

Topping Chocolate Stick

Let’s make original decorations! Here are some ideas for toppings that look like chocolate sticks.

What you’ll need: straws, construction paper cut into heart shapes, tissue paper, double-sided tape, ribbon, pipe cleaners, yarn, craft glue, and decorative materials.

How about decorating heart-shaped “chocolates” made from construction paper together with kids who are increasingly eager to do things on their own? It’s perfect for Valentine’s Day crafts, too! Give it a try!

Recommended Valentine’s craft for 3-year-olds! Here’s how to make a heart-shaped stick card.

First, use a sponge dipped in paint or an ink pad to stamp color onto a rectangular sheet of construction paper.

Cut out two heart shapes from the paper.

After applying glue, sandwich a piece of cardboard cut into the same heart shape between the two paper hearts, attaching them to both sides.

Be sure to attach a straw as the stick.

Use an awl or similar tool to punch holes all the way around the heart.

Thread yarn through the holes.

Place the stick in a gift bag and tie it with a ribbon.

Finally, add a card, and it’s complete!

Threading fluffy yarn is so much fun! Here’s a heart-shaped gift craft that’s perfect for 3-year-olds.

First, cut construction paper or cardstock into a heart shape.

If you draw a large heart, it’s a great chance to practice using scissors.

Next, punch holes along the edge of the heart with a hole punch.

Once the holes are made, thread yarn through any hole you like.

It’s done when you randomly lace colorful, thicker yarn through the holes! A radiating pattern looks cute too.

Thicker yarn is easier to thread, so prepare something your child can handle easily.

The skeleton is super cute! Here’s how to make an ogre-themed bean holder for Setsubun using a clear cup.

First, apply glue to a clear cup and stick on pieces of cut colored film.

Next, stack another clear cup on top and put double-sided tape around the rim.

Attach tissue paper (for flowers) to create the ogre’s hair, then add double-sided tape around the bottom part of the cup as well.

Make the ogre’s pants using tissue paper or construction paper.

You can draw the pattern yourself or cut and paste shapes—both are fun! Attach the horns, facial parts, and a pipe-cleaner handle, and you’re done!

Also on winter walls! Gloves

Also on winter walls! Gloves

Mittens are so cute, aren’t they? But they’re not great for playing in the snow—that’s the downside! So let’s enjoy mittens as a winter craft instead.

Prepare your favorite origami paper, then fold it in half twice into a square to make creases.

Open the paper, color side up, and fold the bottom edge up to meet the crease.

Next, fold down the left corner of the folded-up section along the crease to make a triangle.

Now unfold the bottom edge you just folded up, and fold it up again to the outermost crease.

Then use the next crease above it to make a roll fold.

Once you’ve done that, flip the paper over.

Fold the left and right edges inward like an upside-down “V.” Then fold the top left and right corners into triangles, and fold down the new top corners as well to round the mitten shape.

Finally, fold the right corner at the base of the “V” outward to form the thumb, and you’re done!
