Karaoke songs that make it easy for women to score high

Karaoke systems with scoring features have been getting more and more sophisticated lately, and an increasing number now evaluate vocal techniques like vibrato and scooping.

However, the largest part of the scoring criteria is still the accuracy of melody and rhythm.

In this feature, we focus on those criteria and have compiled a selection of songs that are easy to sing and likely to score high, especially ones where it’s easy to follow the melody and rhythm.

When karaoke has a scoring function, you can’t help but want to go for a high score, whether you’re confident in your singing or not.

For each song, we’ve also included tips on how to earn a high score, so be sure to use them as a reference and aim for your best.

That said, the most important thing is to forget about the numbers and just sing freely and have fun the way you like!

This was the legendary female trio Candies’ final single, released on February 25, 1978.

Befitting a song that closes out the group’s career, it’s striking how the lyrics are sprinkled throughout with titles of their past hits.

Many ’70s hits are easy to sing and great for karaoke, and this song is no exception—its melody is catchy and very singable.

With this one, scoring a perfect 100 might not be just a dream.

That said, speaking personally, I’d rather you forget about the score and have fun imitating the choreography! And if you can sing it as a trio and even recreate the harmonies, that would be the best.

Brandy War Chronicle is a three-piece rock band known for their mysterious image, as their members’ specific profiles remain undisclosed.

Their signature sound blends alternative rock with a touch of synth-pop, creating a nostalgic style of songwriting.

Their new track, “Like a Nightmare,” showcases the group’s allure.

With a strong focus on groove, the vocal line is intentionally very understated.

While it sits in the mid-to-high to high register, the overall range is narrow, making it a song that anyone can aim for a high score with.

Sansū Girl is a four-piece co-ed rock band.

The band name is read as “Sansū Girl.” While rooted in rock, they’ve gained popularity for a broad musicality that transcends genre.

Among their songs, a particularly strong recommendation is Tanoshii Sansū.

It features a Chinese-pop-like finish, with a consistently comical and cute vibe throughout.

Despite its bright tone, the vocal range is surprisingly narrow, and there aren’t any notably high parts.

The tempo is a bit fast, so as long as you keep a solid sense of rhythm while singing, anyone can aim for a high score.

Melting into the sunsetKamishiraishi Mone

This song released by Mone Kamishiraishi in 2022 was selected as the ending theme for TBS’s news program NEWS23.

It’s a beautiful ballad that conjures up the image of a stunning sunset just by listening.

The vocal melody is composed of very broad, relaxed phrases, making it an excellent choice for everyday singers to pick at karaoke and aim for a high score.

When aiming for a high score, be careful not to let your pitch waver on the long notes in the chorus, and make sure to clearly hit the lower notes that appear briefly in the A section.

Also, try to place your voice as much as possible toward the upper palate when you sing; that will help you get closer to her bright, sparkling tone.

Give it a try if you like.

You're My Only Shinin' StarNagayama Miho

This is Miho Nakayama’s 12th single, released in February 1988.

The song was written and composed by Toshiki Kadomatsu, who later released a self-cover version himself in 1999.

Not just for this song, but as a general tip for scoring high in karaoke, tracks from the mid-80s to early 90s are great targets.

Compared to modern songs, the melodies are straightforward, easy to understand, and generally easier to sing.

In the case of this song, Kadomatsu’s self-cover might make it seem a bit challenging, but Miho Nakayama’s version is arranged with a key that an average female singer can handle, and the tempo is a singable medium-slow.

It’s a really great song—give it a try!

Actually…Nogizaka 46

This song, with Aruno Nakanishi as the center, was released in 2022 as the group’s 29th single.

It’s an upbeat, catchy track, but the vocal melody consists of relatively relaxed, broad phrases, making it fairly easy to sing in karaoke and a good candidate for a high score.

I feel that clearly contrasting the strength of your voice between the chorus and the other parts is important when expressing this song.

Please keep that in mind as you sing.

However, if you force your voice and belt during the chorus, it can ruin the song’s atmosphere, so try to always sing with a gentle tone.

By the way, the center position for this track is Haruka Kaki.

It starts with a quiet piano intro that briefly makes you think, “Is this a ballad?” but once the song kicks in, it turns into a lively, uptempo number—nice little trick there! The vocal melody and overall feel are classic, straight-down-the-middle idol pop, which means anyone can easily pick it for karaoke and aim for a high score.

Without overthinking it, just enjoy singing and letting your voice out—that might be the secret to scoring big!
