Recommended Japanese bands with female vocals

Bands with female vocalists are wonderful—not just for their singing, but also for the expressiveness they bring to the music, lyrics, and every aspect of their performance, in ways only women can.

For that reason, I think many people are looking for recommendations of bands with female vocalists.

In this article, I’ll introduce some great bands with female singers! I’ve picked a wide range—from cool, hard-rocking bands that can hold their own against any male act, to groups known for their beauty and elegance.

Let’s dive right in!

Recommended Japanese female-vocal bands (1–10)

Yorushika suddenly appeared and quickly became hugely popular, especially online.

The band consists of two members: n-buna, who originally worked as a Vocaloid producer, and vocalist suis.

Beyond suis’s clear, beautiful voice, the songs written by n-buna carry messages tinged with a certain wistfulness that pierce straight into your heart as you listen.

They’re an artist to watch who will likely have a major impact on the music scene going forward.

Tokyo Incidents – The Eternal Alibi of Absence
Proof of Eternal AbsenceToukyou Jihen

A rock band that has captivated listeners with its solid, edgy sound since they began in 2004.

I still can’t forget the impact of their debut track, “Gunjō Biyori.” Of course there’s Ringo Sheena’s vocals, but be sure to pay attention to the formidable musicianship of the heavyweight lineup as well, including producer Seiji Kameda, guitarist Ukigumo, and drummer Toshiki Hata.

They disbanded once in 2012, but reunited on New Year’s Day of 2020.

That “news” made me truly happy! They’re a band whose clashing personalities defy simple description.

Personally, I love the way the piano timbre enters—it gives an impression that, amid the intensity, there’s a certain warmth.

FoolsGLIM SPANKY

When you think of female vocal bands, you might picture idol-like cuteness and poppy tunes, but these girls are on a whole different level! The biggest draw is vocalist Remi Matsuo’s voice, which grabs your ears from the very first listen.

Her wild, badass husky tone paired with the ultra-rock guitar sound is absolutely unmissable!

35.7 is a female-fronted band gaining popularity for their exhilarating, fast-paced sound.

The name is read just as it appears: Sanjuugo Ten-Nana.

Their biggest draw is their undeniably catchy musical style.

While they are a rock band, they lean more toward pop elements than hard-edged rock, making all of their releases highly approachable.

In particular, “Holiday Heaven” showcases their hallmark sense of speed more than most.

They’re the perfect band for driving music.

Gradually gaining popularity, Hump Back has now become a hot band with live show tickets frequently selling out.

They’re a powerhouse likely to lead the next wave of the girls’ band scene! Their catchy melodies that pierce straight to the heart are outstanding, and you’ll find yourself wanting to listen again and again.

If you’re a fan of girls’ rock bands, this is a group you should definitely check out.

As a simple three-piece band, they’re also perfect for covering with your own band!
