Last updated:

Bands with female vocalists are wonderful—not just for their singing, but also for the expressiveness they bring to the music, lyrics, and every aspect of their performance, in ways only women can.

For that reason, I think many people are looking for recommendations of bands with female vocalists.

In this article, I’ll introduce some great bands with female singers! I’ve picked a wide range—from cool, hard-rocking bands that can hold their own against any male act, to groups known for their beauty and elegance.

Let’s dive right in!

Recommended Japanese female-vocal bands (1–10)

UnchainedLOVEBITES

UnchainedLOVEBITES

A five-piece all-female band shining in the world of traditional heavy metal.

Formed in 2016 and making their major debut in 2017, LOVEBITES captivates with dazzling twin-guitar harmonies and a powerful rhythm section.

Many of their songs feature English lyrics, and their music production is geared toward international activity.

In 2018, they won “Best New Band” at the UK music magazine Metal Hammer’s Golden Gods Awards.

That same year, they performed at Germany’s Wacken Open Air, enthralling an audience of around ten thousand.

While rooted in power metal and speed metal, they fuse in elements of classical and jazz to craft a distinctive style that continues to attract metal fans worldwide.

They are highly recommended for listeners seeking a heavy sound and exceptional musicianship.

As a band from Fukuoka, Polkadot Stingray has become hugely popular, especially among young people.

They broke through after a music video they uploaded to YouTube when they were completely unknown went viral—quite a modern trajectory for a band, isn’t it? Musically, their danceable beats, crisp guitar cutting, and slightly mature-sounding vocals are a perfect match.

rays of lightHakubi

Hakubi is a band known for its fragile, translucent female vocals.

Their classic guitar-rock sound feels great, and their straightforward three-piece arrangements make the songs easy to listen to.

What truly stands out is vocalist Katagiri’s voice—while powerful, it has a delicate, almost transparent quality that defines Hakubi’s identity.

They’re a band you won’t want to take your eyes off as they continue to rise.

Only for you, clear skiesYorushika

Yorushika suddenly appeared and quickly became hugely popular, especially online.

The band consists of two members: n-buna, who originally worked as a Vocaloid producer, and vocalist suis.

Beyond suis’s clear, beautiful voice, the songs written by n-buna carry messages tinged with a certain wistfulness that pierce straight into your heart as you listen.

They’re an artist to watch who will likely have a major impact on the music scene going forward.

Until the gobies dash to their endzutto mayonaka de ii no ni.

ZUTOMAYO (short for “Zutto Mayonaka de Iinoni.”) is an artist shrouded in mystery, with little known beyond the fact that ACAね serves as the vocalist.

Their song “Byoushin wo Kamu” (Biting the Second Hand) became a massive hit and has drawn huge attention, especially among younger listeners.

Their irresistibly cool, piano-driven rock sound is incredibly appealing.

They’re a must-watch female-led act whose future activities are highly anticipated.

Chatmonchy is a three-piece band from Tokushima Prefecture.

A guitar rock band with a wide musical range—from moving rock ballads to pop songs—they left behind many classic tracks up until their disbandment in 2018.

Their expressive power is simply overwhelming; once you hit play, you’ll find yourself immersed in their world.

They can truly be called a legendary Japanese band that left a profound impact on future generations.

Proof of Eternal AbsenceToukyou Jihen

Tokyo Incidents – The Eternal Alibi of Absence
Proof of Eternal AbsenceToukyou Jihen

A rock band that has captivated listeners with its solid, edgy sound since they began in 2004.

I still can’t forget the impact of their debut track, “Gunjō Biyori.” Of course there’s Ringo Sheena’s vocals, but be sure to pay attention to the formidable musicianship of the heavyweight lineup as well, including producer Seiji Kameda, guitarist Ukigumo, and drummer Toshiki Hata.

They disbanded once in 2012, but reunited on New Year’s Day of 2020.

That “news” made me truly happy! They’re a band whose clashing personalities defy simple description.

Personally, I love the way the piano timbre enters—it gives an impression that, amid the intensity, there’s a certain warmth.
