It’s a poignant rock number that captures a longing for a lost summer.
Layering the grief of losing someone dear with the restless urgency of the season, it portrays a struggle against a fate that vanishes as fleetingly as fireworks.
Released in April 2022, the song was written as the opening theme for the TV anime Summertime Rendering, and is also included on the album The Place Where the Soul Belongs.
It’s the perfect track for moments at summer’s end when you’re thinking of someone special or looking back on youthful memories.

If you’re looking for a summer song for kids, I recommend Foorin’s “Paprika.” This track was released as the official song supporting the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics on NHK.
Believe it or not, the lyrics and music were written by Kenshi Yonezu.
Perhaps because it was for a summer games event, pay attention to the lyrics—they evoke a sense of summer nostalgia.

It’s a city pop tune so rhythmic and pleasant it makes you want to skip along.
The song is by the band never young beach and was released in 2020 as their fifth single.
It was an original theme song written for an animated film of the same name.
It’s catchy enough to make you hum it without thinking, and the unforced vocals and mellow groove gently sink into your heart.
The lyrics liken words that well up from within to soda bubbles, giving it a wonderfully youthful vibe.

It’s the theme song, sung by Uru, for the film Natsume’s Book of Friends the Movie: Ephemeral Bond.
Before you read the lyrics, there’s something you should know about the series’ protagonist, Natsume.
He lost both of his parents when he was young, and because of his unusual ability he was shunned and passed around among relatives.
Eventually, a distant couple took him in, and he came to know kindness and love.
With that in mind, when you listen to this song, honestly, it’s hard not to cry.
It conveys, with sincere warmth, his gratitude to the people who saved him.

A summer song that openly expresses the joy of meeting someone special, “Kimi ni Deaeta Kara.” Released in 2014 by singer-songwriter miwa, whose cute smile soothes listeners’ hearts.
The lively band sound, evoking the seaside and sandy beaches, makes your body sway.
Its warm message to friends and companions striving toward their dreams and goals will resonate deeply.
It’s also nice to listen to while feeling grateful to your lover.
A refreshing, up-tempo track that will make you impatient for the summer that’s about to begin.

KANA-BOON’s “Massara” amps up the summer with a brisk, refreshing melody.
Released in 2019, the song was chosen as the opening theme for the anime Sarazanmai.
Set to KANA-BOON’s signature sparkling performance, the lyrics revolve around the theme of “connection.” A person crying alone in the dark and someone reaching out a hand; the past and future linked to the present; people we want to stay connected with at heart—humans are connected to many people and moments.
What do we gain there? Can we save someone, or be saved by someone? It feels like the song carries the message that this is how we walk through life.
