[Sports Day for Adults] Events and Games Adults Can Enjoy & Classic Competitions (11–20)
Caterpillar Race

The caterpillar race, which emphasizes full-body movement including the arms and legs, is sure to be a hit even at an adults’ sports day.
Make a caterpillar by connecting cardboard pieces into a tube big enough for a person to fit inside.
The rules are simple: get inside the caterpillar and use your whole body, like crawling, to roll the caterpillar forward from the start to the finish.
Once you reach the finish line, step out of the caterpillar and pass it to the next person.
The team that finishes first wins.
Reinforce the caterpillar well with packing tape so it doesn’t break.
Kimball

A sport played with a 122-centimeter-diameter ball by three teams competing against one another.
It’s a game in which players repeatedly hit and receive the ball, trying not to let it touch the floor while scoring points.
Invented in Canada in 1986, it is a relatively new sport.
The rules are divided into two categories: the “Competition Game” and the “Lead-Up Game.” In the commonly known “Competition Game,” often called kin-ball, periods can be freely set according to participants’ physical conditions, ages, and experience, making it popular for its high degree of flexibility.
As a modern sport that is spreading worldwide, it’s a world game highly recommended for adult sports festivals.
Dodgebee

Dodgebee is a game played with a soft, disc-shaped “soft disc,” similar to dodgeball.
First, teams of 13 players face off on an 18m x 9m court, trying to hit opponents with the disc to reduce the number of players inside the court, just like in dodgeball.
The rules are simple: the team with more players remaining on the court at the end wins.
Since the soft disc doesn’t hurt even if it hits the body, it’s nice that there’s little risk of injury.
bread-eating contest

Introducing a bread-eating race that brings smiles to everyone’s faces when they see people biting into bread—fun for adults too.
Hang pieces of bread from a string stretched between two poles.
Set the bread positions evenly.
Along the course from start to finish, participants must grab the hanging bread using only their mouths—no hands allowed.
Because the bread is simply suspended, even a slight touch with the mouth makes it swing, so it’s surprisingly tricky to get.
Once you’ve caught the bread with your mouth, run to the finish line.
Adjusting the height of the bread according to participants’ ages and heights can make the event even more exciting.
Borrower Competition
The traditional scavenger race at sports festivals involves finding specified items around the venue and heading to the finish line.
In this variation, however, the targets are limited to people: participants must locate a designated person in the crowd and head to the goal together.
If you display the prompt on a wearable panel, it becomes easier for the audience to see, and the person who fits the description can approach the participant as well.
You can adjust the difficulty by how you set the prompts, but choosing clear ones helps the event run smoothly.
It would also be fun to include prompts that make the audience laugh when they see them from the stands.
futsal

Futsal is a form of soccer played indoors.
While regular soccer is played with 11 players on each team, futsal is played with 5.
The field is smaller, so even those who aren’t confident in their stamina can join in easily.
The rules are almost the same as soccer, so there’s no need to worry about learning anything complicated.
If you have more than five players, you can rotate players at set intervals.
It’s also been incorporated into school classes recently, so it’s a great option if you want to play together with your kids.

Kihei-giri (blindfold swordplay)

It really gets exciting when there’s a sport where people can compete on equal footing regardless of age or gender.
That’s why I recommend “Kehaigiri.” You often see it on variety shows.
In Kehaigiri, players are blindfolded and swing a stick, relying on their sense of the opponent’s presence; the first to land a hit wins.
It’s best to use sticks made of sponge or urethane so no one gets hurt if they’re struck.
It’s also guaranteed to be a blast when several people play at the same time!
