[Adult Sports Day] Fun Activities and Games for Grown-Ups & Classic Events

When you think of a sports day, it probably brings to mind a school event.

However, these days, some adults also hold sports days to boost teamwork at work or to deepen friendships among friends.

That said, when it actually comes time to plan one, it can be hard to think of events that suit adults, or you might struggle with what to choose because there are so many types of competitions.

In this article, we’ll introduce recommended events for an adults’ sports day!

We’ve gathered not only classic events and physically demanding ones, but also activities that let you use your head and have fun.

Use this as a reference when deciding on your lineup.

Let’s strengthen our bonds through a sports day!

[Sports Day for Adults] Events and Games Adults Can Enjoy & Classic Competitions (41–50)

Tail Tag Game (Mononoke Hunt)

Shiorin: Mononoke Hunt [Great Success!]
Tail Tag Game (Mononoke Hunt)

There are probably people who want to set up a competition they’ve never tried before.

In that case, I’d like to introduce the tail-tag game.

It’s a simple rule set used in the TV show “Supersonic Tail-Tag Battle! Mononoke Hunt,” where players compete to grab the tails of the Mononoke within the field.

You could also customize it by turning the tails into candy or plush toys.

The show added various game elements as well, so it might be a good idea to use those as references.

Dance Gesture Game

SixTONES – We tried the Dance Game 'Dance Gesture Game'!
Dance Gesture Game

A quiz game where you express a hidden prompt through dance so your teammates can guess it.

The performer must incorporate movements that convey the prompt while still presenting it as a dance, which demands a high level of skill.

To win, you need to clear more prompts than the opposing team, but the more seriously you commit, the more entertaining it becomes for the audience, making for a lively atmosphere.

It’s a great game for a sports day as well, where adult-style approaches can make the difference between victory and defeat.

Power Force

Sports Event: Power Force Edition
Power Force

As its name suggests, Power Force is a powerful game where players pit their strength against each other.

First, four participants are connected with elastic cords.

Then they run toward paper balloons placed in different directions, and whoever pops theirs first wins.

Only four people can play at a time, but by rotating players, large groups can enjoy it too! In that case, we recommend team matches or a tournament format.

It also sounds fun to plan strategies—like deciding when to go all out—before jumping in.

Foot darts

[Soccer] We tried the new sport, foot darts, and a miracle happened lol #FootDarts #Soccer #TokyoOlympics
Foot darts

You’re familiar with darts and soccer, right? Foot darts is a combination of those two sports.

First, you set up a giant dartboard about four meters tall.

Then each player kicks a ball at it three times to compete for points.

The balls are designed to stick to the board when they hit it—so it’s basically like a massive game of darts.

The rules are the same as in regular darts: the closer to the center, the higher the score.

There are companies that rent out foot-darts boards, so be sure to check them out.

Costume Relay

A costume relay is a simple game where athletes in costumes pass the baton in turn to see which team can reach the finish line the fastest.

Once you’re an adult, sprinting at full speed is tough enough as it is, and with the added weight of the costumes, everyone ends up running hard and out of breath—making it thrilling to watch, too.

Plus, with each person bringing their own outfit, ranging from superhero-style suits to cuddly mascots, just seeing the lineup is enough to get you excited!

Borrowed Item Race

[NPB Pacific League] The second event is a scavenger race! Player impersonations too… 2014/11/23 Saitama Seibu Lions Fan Appreciation Day
Borrowed Item Race

The borrowing race, where you draw a prompt while running, find the specified item in the venue, and head to the finish line, is a staple event at sports days.

It can be fun to use things people in the venue are wearing as themes, but setting the prompts to be actual people might make it easier for the audience to understand.

Including the deliberation after you find the target and reach the goal, it seems like you can create an enjoyable atmosphere.

It’s not good if it turns into insults, so it’s important to choose simple prompts that anyone can understand or ones that are complimentary.

Three-legged race

Ultra serious! The legendary relay team’s parents lose a three-legged race and are left stunned.
Three-legged race

Here’s an introduction to the three-legged race, where the key is to synchronize perfectly with your partner.

It’s best to pair up with someone you can communicate with easily.

Tie the legs that will be on the inside together with a string or something similar.

Before you start, decide which foot you’ll begin running with.

After running from the start to the finish, pass the baton to the next pair.

Calling out to each other as you run can help you become one in spirit and might even increase your speed.

Since this is an adults’ sports day, dressing up in costumes while you run will make it even more exciting.
