ball toss (traditional Japanese beanbag/ball-throwing game)

A popular event that anyone who has taken part in a school sports day since childhood has likely experienced.
With the simple rule of putting more balls into the basket than the opposing team, many people probably remember throwing themselves into it with enthusiasm.
As adults, you can think about how to efficiently get as many balls in as possible, allowing you to approach it from a different perspective than when you were a child.
Of course, you can also enjoy jumping in with childlike abandon—it’s an event that excites people across eras and ages.
Jama-Jama Ball Toss

How about a twist on the traditional beanbag toss called “Chaotic Beanbag Toss”? Beanbag toss is a classic at sports festivals, but in this version you assign people to interfere so the bags don’t go in easily.
You can physically obstruct with illustrations or wall panels, draw everyone’s attention with full-body suits, and try all sorts of tactics.
The added difficulty is bound to make the adults get serious too.
It’s also fun to play unique background music while you compete.
write-off

In an adults’ sports day, the stick-pulling game is guaranteed to get heated.
The rules are simple: split into two teams and pull the sticks placed in the center back to your own side.
The team that brings more sticks into their territory wins.
It’s recommended to form subgroups within your team and decide in advance which group will go for which stick.
Once you’ve pulled your target stick into your territory, go cheer on your teammates.
Teamwork and the ability to observe where you’re short on numbers and respond flexibly are key.
Do your best and relive your childhood memories!
Musical chairs

Here’s a game of musical chairs you can enjoy while reminiscing about your childhood.
Set up one fewer chair than the number of participants, arranging them in a circle.
Participants walk around the chairs to the music.
When the music stops, quickly sit in a chair.
Anyone who unfortunately doesn’t get a seat steps out of the circle and cheers the others on.
The last person remaining wins.
It can be fun for adults to think up strategies—like which chair to aim for or what walking pace to keep.
If you have a large number of participants, dividing into groups before starting might make the game easier to run.
centipede race

One of the classic events at school sports days is the three-legged race.
The centipede race is a version where a much larger group takes on the challenge.
Unlike the three-legged race, in the centipede race participants line up in a single file and tie together their left feet in one line and their right feet in another.
The rule is to compete on how fast you can walk in that state.
Naturally, it demands a great deal of teamwork, making it perfect for strengthening group cohesion.
Plus, the more participants you have, the higher the difficulty and the more fun and game-like it becomes!
True/False Quiz

True-or-false quizzes (O/X quizzes) are a popular game that everyone knows.
However, it seems surprisingly few people have actually played one, so let’s review how it works.
First, divide the field into an O area and an X area.
Then ask a question and have participants move to the side they think is correct.
If you’re playing in teams, using a rule where points are awarded based on how many teammates remain on the correct side makes it more exciting! There are plenty of books and websites that introduce quiz ideas, so be sure to check them out.
Samurai sword-fighting (chambara) battle

When there are many participants, we recommend a sport called Chanbara Battle.
Many people played chanbara pretend-sword fights as children, right? Chanbara Battle turns that into a competitive game.
The rules are very simple.
First, players split into two teams and each holds a foam sword.
Then you duel chanbara-style, and the team loses if its commander is struck.
The rules are simple, but the game is highly strategic and engaging even for adults! It’s also perfect for entertaining guests from abroad!
