Bagworm relay

How about incorporating a “bagworm relay,” which looks adorably like a bagworm, into your mini sports day events? It’s called the bagworm relay because participants wear burlap sacks—just like what a bagworm “wears”! You use a large burlap sack, like the kind sold at hardware stores for coffee beans, to cover about half your body.
Since you can’t walk normally, you hop your way toward the finish line.
Jumping big and fast is great, but it also increases the risk of falling, so be careful—yet hurry—doing your best!
Ball-passing game

It’s a game where each team lines up in a single vertical file and transports a ball.
The person at the front holds the ball, passes it to the person behind, then moves to the back of the line, causing the whole line to advance.
The first team to reach the goal wins! Adding rules for how to pass the ball—such as passing it under the legs or over the head—makes it even more fun.
Since it’s crucial not to drop the ball, teamwork becomes very important, helping players develop cooperation and communication skills.
human disentanglement puzzle

This is a human “untangling puzzle” that tests teamwork and brains as you unravel a complex knot of hands! Your team forms a circle, intertwines arms, and moves so that everyone’s tangle gets undone.
The tricky part is that it always feels almost solvable but not quite—like when “I’m clear over here, but the other side is still tangled,” or “we’re just wriggling around and making it even more complicated.” Keep your head cool, think at full speed without getting frustrated, read the situation calmly, and unite as a team to go for the win!
Play with the roll you got

A game decided by the roll of a die that you can enjoy both indoors and outdoors, such as in a gymnasium or on a sports field.
Each player rolls a large die once and then runs to the spot with the piece of paper showing the same number as the result.
They circle around it and return to the starting point.
Because the running distance changes depending on the number rolled, the venue naturally gets lively.
A major advantage is that it can be played indoors, such as in a gym.
You can enhance the atmosphere by making the die faces large and easy to see, or by surrounding the papers with unique cones or decorations.
It’s easy for people who aren’t confident in sports to join, and it also works well as a team competition.
backward relay

One of the most popular events at sports days is the relay, right? How about trying a backward relay, where you run facing backward? It’s a simple idea—just run backward—but you’ll probably find it surprisingly challenging.
Since we don’t usually move backward in everyday life, it creates a strange sensation.
Give it a try and feel it for yourself.
Another tricky part is that you can’t see the person you’re handing the baton to.
It demands more calling out to each other and stronger teamwork than usual.

Jump Rope Relay

Let me introduce a jump-rope relay that really heats up at sports day.
Form teams of several people and run around the track while turning a jump rope.
The rope serves as the baton—pass the rope to the next runner to keep the relay going.
During the relay, coordinating the timing of turning the rope and moving your feet is the key.
The final anchor leg decides the winner! It’s a good idea to adjust the distance and rules to match participants’ ages and fitness levels.
Have fun cheering each other on as a team and do your best to win!
Will it fit in the basket on my back?

For those who want to try a slightly more complex event, “Can it land in the basket on your back?” is also recommended.
In this game, you dribble a ball like in basketball, and at the halfway point you give it a big bounce so it lands in the basket you’re carrying on your back.
Getting the ball into this basket is both the most entertaining part and the most challenging.
You’ll probably end up hitting your head with the ball many times, so use something soft.
A laundry basket works well for the basket.
