[Age 2] Have fun with Halloween crafts! A collection of ideas perfect for October

I want to enjoy Halloween crafts with 2-year-olds! But many people may be unsure what to make.

In fact, there are plenty of memorable Halloween craft ideas you can do together while feeling the season.

We introduce activities like handprint art, paper plate buckets, and wobbling ghosts that you can enjoy with the children.

Easy ghosts with paper towels

Here’s a quick and easy ghost-making idea.

All you need is a cup and some paper towels.

First, draw lines on the paper towel with water-based pens in any colors you like.

Any color combination or shape works.

Then drape the paper towel over an upside-down cup and sprinkle water on it to make the colors bleed.

You’ll see it transform into dreamy, ethereal hues.

After that, draw a face on it and you’re done.

Using a spray bottle when you moisten it can make the process even more fun.

Playing with and crafting using cotton engages the senses and provides great stimulation.

For this project, roll the cotton into balls and glue them onto construction paper, matching the outlined shapes.

Once finished, you’ll have a three-dimensional Halloween craft.

Please note that it takes a little time for the glue to dry after sticking the cotton on.

After the glue dries, add faces to the cotton to complete the project.

You can also paint the cotton with colors to create Halloween characters like pumpkins or spiders—sounds fun, right? Display them on the wall to boost the Halloween spirit!

Ghosts made with sponges and cotton swabs

Let’s use sponge ghost stamps to make lots of ghosts on paper.

As preparation, have an adult pre-cut sponges into ghost shapes.

Then, dip the sponge stamps in paint and press them onto the paper.

After stamping, use a brush, cotton swabs, or your fingers dipped in paint to draw the ghosts’ faces.

Let the children stamp and draw faces however they like—it’s an activity they can enjoy freely.

Halloween bag

Speaking of Halloween, getting treats is one of the big highlights, isn’t it? To make the holiday even more fun, I’d like to recommend making Halloween bags.

In this activity, you create your own original bag by cutting out ghosts and monsters from construction paper and pasting them onto a paper bag.

With a cute bag, the joy of collecting sweets is sure to double! Dive in with excitement as you think, “What design should I choose?”

Stringing with Halloween beads

@n.annlee321

My book has been greenlit for a reprint—thank you so much! I’ve added the link in my profile. Title: “New Handmade Toys” (Available now on Amazon, Rakuten, and in bookstores!) Learn through play! Simple, fun ideas. I’m An, sharing fun things you can enjoy with kids. I found Halloween-colored washi tape, so I combined it with tapioca/bubble tea straws and turned them into beads. If you’ve got extra washi tape, turning it into beads is super cute! It’s a bit of fine work, but with some clever cutting you can make ghost beads and pumpkin beads too. Great for stringing variations and Halloween crafts. If you’re doing threading activities at home for Montessori or fine-motor practice, it can get boring with the same patterns, right? Try making them together using your child’s favorite washi tape designs—it’s fun from the making stage. Thank you for reading! I’m a mom of a 3-year-old and a 6-year-old who love making and playing. (Toy Consultant & Picture Book Instructor) I share crafts, play ideas, handmade toys, picture books—anything fun to enjoy with kids. It’s said that practicing with scissors is good to start around ages two to three, so if your child can handle scissors well, why not try this craft? You only need two materials: wide tapioca (boba) straws and masking tape.

First, wrap masking tape around the boba straw, then cut it into small pieces.

If your child isn’t confident with scissors yet, an adult should handle the cutting.

Using Halloween-themed designs and colors for the masking tape, or varying how you apply it, can even make the pieces look like bats.

Use the finished beads to create room decorations or accessories!

Monsters Made with Marbles and Paint

Kids love paints and shiny marbles, don’t they? Art activities using marbles and paint let them enjoy creativity and how colors mix.

Here’s a fun project to make a monster using paint and marbles.

Prepare construction paper, marbles, paint, and a square tray.

Put the construction paper and paint-coated marbles into the tray, then tilt and move the tray to roll the marbles around.

Once the paint dries, add facial parts and other decorations to finish.

Using colored pens or round stickers to draw expressions could be really cute, too.

Colorful Ghosts with Finger Painting

How about making colorful ghosts with finger painting? Finger painting is a technique where you paint using your fingers or hands.

This time, though, we’ll do it a bit differently: you’ll paint by touching the paint and paper through a food storage bag.

That way your hands won’t get messy.

Once you’ve roughly created a ghost silhouette, add eyes and a mouth at the end.

The impression changes depending on where you place them! For example, placing them close together can make it look like a full-body ghost, while spacing them farther apart can make it look like a close-up of the face.
