The Return of Heavy Metal THE Kan

THE Kanmuri has been active since 2003.

Although it’s in band format, the members are support musicians, and vocalist Tetsuya Kanmuri performs solo under the name THE Kanmuri.

His costume is quite unique—he wears an iron helmet like something out of Fist of the North Star.

He’s a great singer with a great voice; while his appearance may divide opinions, he’s an artist you should definitely watch and listen to until the end.

He provided the singing voice for Krauser in the film Detroit Metal City.

PowerDUSTAR-3

DUSTAR-3 is a three-piece band formed by NOISY and HIMAWARI, formerly of SEX MACHINEGUNS, and former member(s) of Λucifer.

Known for their free-spirited ensemble where all members take on vocal parts, they’ve gained popularity for their dynamic performances.

From songs with comedic lyrics to tracks with heavy, intricate arrangements, their richly varied musical style—where each member’s individuality clashes and blends—is well worth a listen.

Highly recommended if you’re looking for something different from a straightforward metal band.

Since their major debut in 1998, they’ve continued a long-running career—despite breakups, reunions, and hiatuses—and have now reached veteran status.

Their perseverance on the front lines during a barren era for metal deserves far more recognition.

While grounded in traditional German metal and armed with overwhelming technical skill, they’ve stayed true to a stance of doing dead-serious, tongue-in-cheek things.

STRIKELittle Lilith

Little Lilith is gaining attention as a Japanese all-girl rock band.

Their music is rooted in emotional rock, characterized by an intense style that incorporates the latest djent sound.

In 2022, they held the ONE-MAN LIVE “A Rebellion” at Shibuya Club Asia, showcasing their powerful loud style to a packed venue.

Paired with cynical, surreal artwork, their aesthetic has earned high praise both in Japan and abroad.

Highly recommended for those who love the combination of heavy music and female vocals.

Melodic speed metal is a subgenre of heavy metal, known for its driving pace and melodic vocals.

One band leading the melodic speed metal scene is Unlucky Morpheus.

They began their career by covering songs from the Touhou Project and gained attention for their masterful musicianship.

They have remained highly active to this day.

Incidentally, they are also the band that invented the “reversal song,” which becomes a different piece when played backwards.

Limit LoversSHOW-YA

A pioneering all-female band, this five-piece metal outfit led the 1980s band boom with their overwhelming performances.

They are also known for founding the all-women rock festival “NAON no YAON,” and are still hailed as legends by many female musicians and girl bands today.

While vocalist Keiko Terada’s powerful singing and the group’s high-level musicianship are widely recognized, did you know that they were initially promoted as an idol-style band at the time of their debut? In 2021, they also broke into the international scene, and they continue to be at the forefront of Japan’s girl-band landscape as a metal band.
