Fun July Craft Ideas for 2-Year-Olds: Summer Wall Decorations

In July, the heat continues and we end up spending more time indoors, don’t we?

Many teachers with energetic two-year-olds may find themselves wondering, “What should we do today?”

Here, we’re sharing craft ideas recommended for two-year-olds.

There are lots of fun activities featuring motifs that are perfect for summer.

While valuing the children’s eagerness to try things, let them enjoy expressing themselves freely.

Because we focus on activities that allow children to express themselves freely, we consistently use the term “制作” rather than “製作” in the main text.

fluffy shaved ice

Let’s enjoy the fluffy texture with our fingertips! July Summer Craft Book: “Fluffy Shaved Ice” — For 1- and 2-year-olds [Kindergarten/Daycare]

Let me introduce fluffy shaved ice that looks delicious, too.

Put cotton and food coloring into a bag and mix them to dye the cotton.

It might be fun to imagine what flavor you’re making as you go.

Stick double-sided tape onto the shaved-ice base you made, then attach the cotton.

The key is to layer it on loosely to create a fluffy, voluminous look.

Dissolve paint and glue in water to mimic condensed milk, and drizzle it over the shaved ice.

Your tasty-looking shaved ice is complete!

Watercolor-style Shirokuma (polar bear) panties

Even polar bears that aren’t good with the heat might still want to enjoy summer a little, right? To help a polar bear get into the summer spirit, let’s make some cute shorts! Cut construction paper into the shape of shorts, lightly mist it with a spray bottle, and drop several colors of paint thinned with plenty of water to create a bleeding effect.

Once the colors have dried, combine it with construction paper cut into a polar bear shape and add parts like the eyes and mouth to finish! You could also have the children draw the eyes and mouth later with crayons.

A turtle in pastel art

Let’s draw a colorful turtle using pastel art.

First, the teacher shaves several pastel colors and lays the shavings out on the paper.

The children will pick up the shaved pastel with their fingers and apply it to a turtle-shell-shaped piece of construction paper by rubbing in circular motions.

Encourage them to add small amounts of different colors or boldly layer them—let them color freely.

Once the shell is colored, combine it with the face and limb parts cut from construction paper to complete the turtle! Be sure the cutting of the construction paper pieces is prepared in advance by the teacher.

With the marble run, the goldfish can’t escape.

Goldfish that you often see at festivals.

To keep them from escaping, you need to make sure they’re securely placed in a bag.

With that in mind, let’s make a craft of a goldfish swimming lively inside a bag.

To evoke the cool look of water, roll paint-covered marbles over white construction paper to create patterns.

Then, paste cut-out paper goldfish on top—and it’s done! Finger stamping to add seaweed and other details is also recommended.

Let the children handle rolling the marbles and doing the finger stamps, while the teacher should take care of cutting the paper and gluing the parts together.

Penguin you can make with two sheets of origami paper

I will show you how to make a cute penguin that feels cool for summer.

Prepare two sheets of origami paper, round stickers, and glue, and let’s get started.

We’ll begin with the penguin’s face.

Take one sheet of origami and fold one corner by about one third.

Flip it over, then fold the left, right, and bottom edges to form the shape of the penguin’s face.

For the body, fold the left and right sides of the origami diagonally, flip it over, then fold up the tip of the bottom section to finish.

Attach the face and body together, then add the beak, eyes, and facial expression to create your cute penguin.

Sponge stamp ice cream

Let’s make ice cream using sponge stamps! First, take a sheet of drawing paper and dab the paint-covered stamp to create patterns.

You can use any colors you like.

Once the paint is dry, cut the paper into the shape of ice cream.

Cut brown construction paper into a cone shape, draw the cone pattern, and paste it onto a backing sheet.

Then stick the stamped ice cream on top of the cone, add patterns in the empty spaces with crayons, and you’re done! You can make several scoops and stack them to create two- or three-scoop ice cream, too.

Here are some ice cream craft ideas that also let you enjoy making collages.

Cut the cup or cone bases out of cardboard, then decorate them by drawing patterns with pens or using colored paper.

For the ice cream scoops, basically cut circles out of construction paper, and have fun adding various toppings with small pieces of colored paper or stickers.

It’s also cute to make “collage ice cream” by gluing torn newspaper or flyers onto the round paper scoops.

Once your ice cream is done, attach it to the base to finish.
