Charisma of ArroganceUNISON SQUARE GARDEN

Charisma of ArroganceUNISON SQUARE GARDEN

The opening theme song for the anime “Blue Lock VS.

U-20 JAPAN”! It’s an aggressive track with blistering rock and provocative lyrics that really shine at karaoke.

Speaking of UNISON SQUARE GARDEN, it’s all about Saito’s high tones, right? The key is how effortlessly you can hit those highs and how much you can enjoy singing them.

Since it’s the fast-tempo “Boujaku no Charisma,” breath timing is tricky and your ability to keep steady rhythm will be tested.

There are parts that don’t follow a standard rhythm, so it’s probably best to memorize each melody section.

Make sure to listen closely to the backing instruments and lock in the rhythm!

-ness; typicality; the quality/essence of being [X] (as in “X-ness” or “X-like character”)Ofisharu Higedan Dism

This song, chosen as the theme for the animated film “Hyakue-mu.,” is a quintessentially Higedan-style challenge.

The rhythm is fairly steady, but there are lots of words, making breathing difficult, and the range is extremely wide.

In the C section and the chorus, many people will probably think, “Wait, does the melody really go up here?” Once you start singing there’s almost no break—the melody just keeps coming one after another—so you’ll need a lot of resolve (lol).

First, make sure you firmly memorize the lyrics and melody! The A section seems relatively calm to sing, but from the B section onward it’ll be tough unless you plan your breath spots.

Instead of singing at 100% the whole time, aim to release your voice little by little and save the full power for the high notes—that balance works well! Don’t miss even the briefest moments where you can take a breath.

Also, in passages that drop from high to low, pitch tends to sag and you may strain your throat, so try singing with your eyebrows kept raised!

Kaikai KitanEVE

This song was pre-released on October 3, 2020, and serves as the opening theme for the first season of the TV anime Jujutsu Kaisen.

I think many people often sing Eve’s songs, but all of them have a very wide vocal range, don’t they? By the way, Kaikai Kitan spans from F2 to D5, which made me think, “Can you really sing that low?”—I was surprised too.

It’s a song that’s challenging in the low notes of the A section and the high notes of the chorus.

In the A section, try to let the voice come out slowly from the vocal folds and avoid making it too muffled.

From the B section, it starts to sound more song-like with higher notes, but if you push too hard, your voice will collapse.

Aim to project your falsetto strongly and focus on explosiveness! The chorus is also demanding in terms of breathing, so it might be good to decide in advance where you’ll take breaths.

For songs where breathing is tricky like this, instead of singing everything at 100%, it helps to pace yourself and take small, solid breaths in the brief moments you have!

LuluAdo

Ado is a singer who enjoys nationwide popularity.

For most people, the majority of her songs are quite challenging.

So honestly, we could have featured any of them, but this time we’re introducing LULU, which is among her most difficult.

In this track, shouts appear frequently throughout the vocal lines.

A single shout is one thing, but having them in such rapid succession makes it tough unless you’re very used to singing.

There are also few places to breathe, so if you’re confident in your lung capacity, give it a try.

Wolpis Carter is a male singer whose voice is so clear and beautiful it could be mistaken for a woman’s.

He’s known as a “guy who wants to hit high notes,” and this song is his specialty! The melody climbs even higher toward the end, so unless you’re comfortable with high tones from the start, it’s tough to sing in the original key.

The last chorus might give you a headache… But when a song is this high, it actually feels downright beautiful.

I personally love high-note songs, and belting them out feels amazing.

The overall range is quite wide, from G#3 to F5, so be careful not to strain your throat on the low notes.

Lift your facial muscles from the beginning and sing it through to the end!

SynchrogazerMizuki Nana

A symphonic rock piece themed around awakening and resolve! If you can pull it off at karaoke, it’s a showstopper worthy of the name “Senki Zesshō,” showcasing overwhelming expressive power! I love Nana Mizuki and sing many of her songs, but “Synchrogazer” is quite challenging—the tempo is about 140, which is pretty fast.

On top of that, the pitch jumps are intense, and when you try singing with a pitch guide, you’ll often find the notes don’t seem to lock in, to the point where you might think, “Am I singing this wrong?” Solid rhythm and diaphragmatic breathing are absolutely essential! It’s such a cool song, so try practicing by changing the playback speed on YouTube and the like!

Ephemeral yet eternal sorrowUVERworld

UVERworld “Fleeting Yet Eternal Sorrow”

The first opening theme of the anime Mobile Suit Gundam 00 Season 2, which depicts the boundary between love and hatred.

UVERworld’s songs are generally tough to master, and this one is no exception, but if you can pull it off at karaoke, it’s a track that lets you become a true performer who can wield explosive emotion! The overall vocal range is fairly wide, from D#3 to C#5.

Since F4 is the most frequently used pitch on average, it’ll feel consistently high for male singers, but if you sing with solid resonance through your body, it becomes a bit easier.

Focus on resonating more in your chest than your head—this approach should suit the song well.

Breath support and explosive power are crucial, so sing with the image of projecting your voice firmly!
